I am getting everything in writing, but am putting everything in writing too.....thats why its my job for today.......GOD, being unemployed causes SOOOOOO much paperwork!!! Its like a full time job in itself, but for less money!

Thats a good idea for photocopying the cards - Ive never done that!! But i will! xx

LL well done for getting things sorted, I sincerely hope that your loved ones don't need to use the info you are collating for a long time.

Great idea to get the bills into joint/sole name of OH. From a banking perspective I would suggest getting as many accounts into joint name as possible and as a minimum your day to day/bills account. When anything happens to you it should make things easier for your DH to sort. With our bank (and I believe it's the same for others) it is simply a matter of completing the paperwork and removing your name from the account. The number stays the same and the account is not blocked at all. With joint accounts because they do not need to be blocked there is not the same urgency to sort them. I have even sent a couple of people away (joint account holders) and told them to come back when they feel more able to deal with it. All that said if you are a non taxpayer an DH is a taxpayer it will affect the tax status of any savings you have (half of any interest will be taxed in this situation rather than none of it for a non tax payer) but this might be worth sacrificing now for ease of sorting in the future.

Most organisations want to see original death certificates but will take photocopies for their records, likewise with any will. I would suggest you have a minimum of three copies and make sure that one original is always kept at home.

Council tax and WFTC and CTC need to be informed almost immediately as it affects how much DH will receive. My council would not speak to anyone other than me so I cancelled the DD until I was ready to sort this :rotfl: WFTC and CTC require new forms and stop payments immediately which was awful as I had to get all the figures together and do new forms literally 3 days after DH died. My sister and parents were great helping out with all this practical stuff. Do you have a parent or close friend who would be able to help your DH?

Stop junk mail for those who have died by registering here for free, it can take up to three months for stuff to stop coming through. We were already with the mail preference service which stop a lot of junk mail and telephone preference service (won't let me put the link :( search tps)

I don't want to cause more upset with all this but hope it helps you both and if there is anything else I can help with please ask.

And I guarantee there will be something/someone you forget to tell and months down the line someone asks for Mrs LL. With me it was the fishmonger ringing up!

so far this morning i have
picked up all DH's dirty washing:mad:(last time i am doing this, anything that isn't in the basket, won't be washed, will be left in a pile on his side of the bed!!)
washed half the pots from yesterday, sorted out our brekkie, been out jogging and caught up on the threads!
plan on getting as much of the kitchen done as possible as DD is wanting to do some baking today, she has a list of things to bake as well - banana muffins, fairy cakes, biscuits and scones - so if anyone fancies tea round mine today then give me a yell!! :rotfl:

gonna try and take it easy a bit as well this week, i don't want myself to boil over and i will if i carry on letting things get to me(thanks Dusty, think i needed someone to point this out to me, as i couldn't see it) although DH is off work for a full week from wednesday, so i might not be working from the list but just doing my own things, hopefully will be decluttering DD of to my mums for a couple of days tomorrow:D so i can give the house a good declutter and spend a bit of time with DH, just the two of us(in almost 4 yrs since having DD, we have only been out, just us, 2 times) and hopefully i will remember everything that is good about him and not his annoying things!!:D

I had problem with TC. They back dated (when I didn't ask) to before Christmas, I took numerous calls to tell them that I WASN'T entitled to the money as DH had been at home then and the claim should have been started on the day I filled it in rolleyes: They kept saying no you are definitely entitled to the money and me saying no as my DH and I were together . got it sorted now.

+++ hugs for your Aunt elly2
Hope you have a good day today Bevan

Me, so glad to hear about your parents new bungalow! Sorry about the tax credits, that’s rough

Zoe I hope your LO is better soon

    Welcome back JackieGlasgow

Gingergirl, so sorry to hear about your friend who died, that’s so sad. Well done for being there to support his wife. Your children sound so sweet, that’s lovely the things they want to do to remember him. Huge hugs to you all

Soappie glad you had a good time at the wedding

Valli glad you had a good time on your walk and hope you have recovered from the aches and pains

Rach glad you enjoyed your walk too and hope you feel better

Zara, I really hope you get the £1000 in 100 days, that sounds like a brilliant challenge

Dusty hope your hand and arm are better soon, it sounds horribly painful

Welcome back Carlsberrgal glad you had a good holiday

Pigpen hope your hospital appointment goes ok

I've decided that I've got to get back on top of things in this place, so now I'm managing to do my dailies fairly well, I'm going to pick a list and keep working on it til it's all done, even if it takes all week. Then the week after I will do a different room.

So I'd better get on with it then! I've only read the first page of this thread, but have read the whole of last weeks' thread now, so hope all are well xx
