Someone was asking about Paypal donations - I found out how to donate spare Paypal money to Unicef's Tsunami Relief Fund and put the information here:

Ebay have links to all the official disaster fund sites
Ebay also allow you to sell an item, and donate all the proceeds direct to the tsunami relief fund.

I'd just like to say a big thankyou to all who have posted advice, I have read it all and have donated.
God bless these poor souls.0 -
Just a quick reminder that if you see people out collecting in the street or donation tins or whatever, and you want to give them a large donation, you are much better doing it via cheque/card online, by post, or phone, if you can.
This way allows you to use Gift Aid and get the goverment to increase your donation by almost 1/3. (28%) so your donation goes a lot further.
By all means stick your pennies in penny jars etc but any more substantial donations are better not given in that way.
(You also lessen the risk of having fallen prey to a bogus collector - a reason for the cynical or paranoid!)0 -
Just heard on the news that the British public's donations now amount to £32 million and growing fast ... makes you proud. :)Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Interesting...
Do you have a source for those stats?
Anyone wanting to donate to AFLAC via Paypal, go to https://www.punkrockvids.com for more information. I'd prefer it if you donated via cheque or with the bank details as provided earlier in this thread by VeryTrying, because PayPal takes a 4% cut.One thing to bear in mind when making donations is that 50% of Oxfams generated money goes on admin and 20% with the Red Cross. I am not sure how it works with this particular disaster, if some is still swallowed up in admin costs but I donated £40 to the Red Cross Tsunami appeal rather than Oxfam. Plus with the Red Cross you can claim the tax back (by ticking a tax declaration on the donation form) so that in reality my donation was £52.0 -

Hi,
Please advice.
I have already donated to the cause via the DEC website. Cannot afford to do anymore :-(
It's my mums bday today and bought her one of the tea/coffee/sugar wooden jars that she has been asking me for a long time. When I gifted it, she said she was happy but would have preferred it, if I had donated the money to the cause.
Went back to the shop for a refund, but got vouchers instead :-[
I am keen to get rid of these vouchers (15 pounds) and put the money where it is required. These are stockpots cookshops ltd vouchers and can be used in their shops at Westbourne, winchester, boscombe and weymouth.
any idea of how to get the money from stockpots to the charity will be useful.
cheers
