I have a sneaky suspicion you can get free advice from the taxman and I also think they can come and look at your books and talk to you about the contributions etc. Coz I think this is what one of my rellies does. ISTR she goes to businesses (in the east end of london, actually) to discuss their contributions and explain the tax and NI situation to the owners. I dunno if this helps, or if you want them to come and look at your books IYSWIM...

    Hi fannyadams

thanks for the advice, i feel totally let down this year by my accountant - he was ill for about 4 months of the year and still has not submitted our business accounts for 05-06, although as per his email yesterday these are almost done!! He never gives me any advice at all and i feel like im asking him something secretive and he never answers me properly!!

The upsot is that if you read my SOA then i still owe him money as will i after his completion of last years accounts, however i am hoping for a tax rebate for last year and once this comes will pay him off totally and go to someone else - a little of the thread i know but i had to vent my feelings....

Also - has anyone felt things were going worse at the beginning rather than better coz thats how i feel?????

it might feel like you are doing worse than before Dotty, but honestly, you aren't!

Could you maybe work out what your position would have been now if you hadn't have had your lightbulb moment when you did, and were still spending at the old rate etc? I'd put money on the fact that your situation would be a lot worse now if you'd carried on as you were!

The first few months are always a nightmare, and you do feel like you are going backwards to some extent, but once you've caught up with everything, it'll get a lot easier! That's a promise!

I think it feels that way cos your more aware of everything now. Before you probably just put it to the back of your mind whereas now you are thinking about it more and so it seems worse.

It will get better and you are on the way to getting there.

Hi - back for a while - have been thinking and i guess you, kar and of course my old buddie chortle have hit the nail on the head so to speak. Because i've had this 'lightbulb' moment i am more aware of my finances and am probably just feeling sorry for myself. There have been days when ive felt really empowered by the realisation that only I can make the changes to make my life and therefore my future better, I can still make a real benefit to my later years and of course the younger ones by sortin this out now and not putting it off, but you do get downhearted sometimes as you feel like 2 steps forward and 3 back. I suppose like Chortle says when i have fully caught up i will feel so much better and can then start sonwballing to get through some of this horrible debt........thanks again you guys for cheering me up

Dotty I think you are doing really well. You have turned everything around in such a short time - I think another month at this and you will be able to see things a lot differently. The first month has got to be the hardest and Im sure there will be set backs but you are now in control. As you said you have had a quarterly bill to pay this month which you will have saved up for next time so it will get better.
All the best and good luck

Thanks oops a daisy - i know you're right and i never thought it would be easy at first.......just wish i didnt have to play catch up in the first place then maybe i could live within my budget and not still feel like im struggling.........but as chortle says it could be a lit worse if i hadn't had my lightbulb moment and stopped myself from getting in an even bigger mess (if that's possible!!)
