The lady in the programme knew she had it good...it made me cringe to see her in PC world rubbing her hands together. Disgraceful.

I thought it was just me that thought they had enough to live on, my partner and I don't get much more and we both work.

How can the producers of the programme make it in the first place without adding up the figures? They claimed the family was living in poverty, and tried to emphasise this at every point, but a quick run through shows they had a large disposal income after paying all bills, about £1000 a month to spend on food or whatever they want!?

Personally I thought the programme was a disgrace. It wouldn't have been hard to find an actual family who was in a "more suitable" situation.

I and many others manage to live on the same or less money than that family was on. If they were struggling that much, I wonder how they afforded to go to sainsburys for their shopping or how they managed to afford to smoke etc. If the family was in actual poverty, smoking would not be an option, surely any parent would put their kids first.

I wonder what the £4000 was actually spent on? The first £2,000 was spent on bill arrears (due to them not paying them for no apparent reason, they had the money as worked out!), a washing machine and a laptop.

The next £2000 was meant to be spent on clothes and the kids, sorry but I couldn't see £2000 worth of clothes or toys for the kids. The sponsor family even had to buy the boy a bed because his parents didn't.

The sponsor family in this programme have been made to look like complete mugs. It is their own fault really if they are that far detached that they couldn't see what was happening.
  • I loved the little girl in the rich house "This is my favourite bag, its a ....Lewis..V..V..Vinton Paris bag" !!! Why buy stuff like that for a child! She didn't even know what she had! Then the boy who said people who dont wear designer stuff dnt have manners!! They were nice kids though, but they needed putting intouch with reality!

I thought the poor family would have been miles better off without the mum, she is obviously a drain on the family! And her face looked like a scrotum!
The dad looked like a hard worker who cared for the kids!

Can't wait till next week! Pity is clashes with The Mentalist!
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!
  • Have to say I agree about this week's programme. £500 on a laptop and accessories!! My (tower) computer died on me last month and I had to borrow money to get a new one. Wouldn't have minded someone giving me £2000 that I don't have to pay back!
The mother was so selfish doing that - the father, quite rightly, pointed out that they needed clothes for the kids for school, and a wardrobe to put said clothes in, but she insisted on the laptop so that she can start her business! I hope she has the money for all the legal requirements, ingredients, advertising, packaging etc.

The family in last week's episode were so much more grateful for everything they got. Single parent family, living on benefits. Spent the money they got on debt and clothes for the kids, and now that they are debt free the mother is taking on a course to help her get work.

Looking forward to next weeks episode :)

Sadly this happens all to often, that people put cigarettes and other substances before their children.

    I watched this with amazement.

The poor little boy who had to sleep on the sofa and didn't have his own bedroom, if they didn't have enough money to bring up one child why have another?

Also taking him off on holiday abroad, how mean was that, like saying this is what you can never afford enjoy the week then bang back to reality.

His face at the end when given his own room for the first time ever was lovely, hope he makes something of himself.

Everything in the show felt scripted and set up to me.

I did feel for the young lad, but wasn't it funny how he just decided to mention holidays in only his second letter to two other kids he didn't really know. Personally you would think a young lad would ask about schools, games, toys, things like that to get to know other kids? Then what a surprise, your off on holiday. I supposed anything else wouldn't have made good TV.

Also on the subject of holidays, sorry but Butlins isn't cheap, if they can afford to go to Butlins, they can afford to go on just about any package holiday abroad or in the UK.

Even when the lad got his own room, the parents looked disappointed because they were losing half of their living room with the partition wall. I think they looked like they expected more, a new house maybe?!

This programme has really annoyed me!
  • i didn't see it but from reading posts sounds like it would have annoyed me too. Both me and my partner work full-time and don't get much more than that

We need to separate out real poverty from parent-induced poverty. The parents (mother) spend every penny as it comes in, no budgetting at all.
