    Thanks for replying.

Yes I drive, I want to buy quickly for cash so I can get my children in school ASAP. despirately need garden, in country at present....spliting up:(.

Really need advice as I dont know the area...schools in duffield area great but house prices eeek.

I will be working at the Derby Royal Hospital
  • No problem.
It's a difficult one. Nice areas with good transport links will obsiously attract a higher price. I'd opt for Littleover but not sure if prices will be suitable. Maybe contact a couple of estate agents in the area and get them on the case for you.

    Dear all

Any ideas for someone moving to derbydhire on a small budget (80K):rotfl: with 2 kids eeek:eek:. Working in Derby. where would you avoid or recommend....help please.

It depend what your looking for and how small your budget is, on reputation the places to avoid in Derby are Chaddesden, Sinfin, Normanton, Allenton, most of Alvaston and most of Mackworth however if your budget is small then these could be the only places you can afford, they are not all bad, however they do have a reputation for a reason.

Places to go for in the city that are ok are Oakwood, Chester Green (which can be really nice in parts and not so in others) and Littleover

And the nice parts are Duffield, Allestree, Daley Abbey and Mickleover (although Mickleover has had a few minor probs recently with a small area of social housing that has recently been built there)

    Hope that helps.
  • Derby is not all bad actually. Like anywhere depends where you live. Sure it has a lower crime rate then snottingham!

    Add...

    Lenton
    Lenton Abbey
    Beeston Rylands
    Sneinton
    Sherwood (forest road)

I live in Sneinton and it's a lovely community there. Plenty of schools but not sure on ofsted. Beeston Rylands is also nice. i think some places just get a bad name from people commenting on them who have never lived there (not wanting to cause a fight!) just my opinion
  • Has anyone any information on what it's like to live in or around the Stanley Common area for a young family?
  • My boyfriend will start studying at Derby University in September and has asked me to go with him. so, I was just wondering if anyone knew which places are best to rent and which are best to avoid living in? Thanks

Chadd's a big area, and some parts are properly Jeremy Kyle country, most of it when you look beyond the surface is honest, working people getting on with it. There are actually some really nice streets. Most of it is really good value for money.

Oakwood's a nice place, but the build of some of the more recent houses can be a bit questionable.

For the original poster. Have a look at Ockbrook. Lovely place, and you'll get a big 3 bed semi with a view well under budget.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
