have you tried searching on rightmove?
I live in mansfield which is about 20-25 miles from nottingham city centre, but it has regular train and bus links and is so much cheaper than nottingham in regards to house prices.
I think it be a hard push for a 3-4 bed house on the outskirts of nottingham for 200k, but in mansfield you can buy a very nice place. The Berry Hill area is the most desirable area.
Depends on which part of Berry Hill, you won't get much along the avenue by berry hill park much under £1,000,000! On the other hand down in the old quarry its nice and very reasonably priced0 -
I would avoid
Bulwell - for the most part
Bestwood Estate (Bestwood Village is nice)
Broxtowe - dont even stop at a red traffic light in that estate
St Anns
The Meadows0 -
Can I jump in to this thread too?
Similar situation - I'll be working in Birmingham (close to New Street station, so will commute by train) and wife will be working in Nottingham.
we're thinking that derby is fairly midpointish, but open to other suggestions! Also, which areas close to Derby station are the nicer ones?0 -

Sandiacre is nice (where I grew up;)) right between Nottingham and Derby, and just two minutes from junction 25 of the M1 and A52. If your budget is bigger, Risley is smaller and posher! Good luck with your search!0

Beeson and Long Eaton would be convenient for commuting to both Notts and Derby.0
