Recommend places to live... in Derby/Nottingham

yes Sandiacre is nice near where I grew up and where my parents are now.0

I grew up in Derby and we lived in Littleover which is next to Sinfin but so much nicer. Property prices are quite reasonable and you could easily find something nice within your budget. Mickleover which is next to Littleover is also worth considering and is a desirable area as well.
There is an Express bus from Derby bus stationi to Nottingham (I think it runs every half hour).0 -

This is a good property in Littleover if you don't mind doing some work and is close to Littleover Village. There are direct bus routes into the city centre from Burton Road (takes about 15 minutes).0 -
In no particular order:
Wollaton
Bramcote
The Park estate
Beeston (below golf course ONLY)
West Bridgford (compton acres, lady bay or town)
Mapperley park (and certain parts of mapperley)
Wilford Village
The above are the only areas I would live in. Let us know which road you decide, as some parts of the above areas arn't so great either!
Stay away from Derby, its horrible!
google "uklocalarea" and use that as a guide to find the best parts of the above areas.
For £200k, Bramcote would be my choice. The part of Bramcote above Derby road in the best.

Would be what you should look for!
Or something like this in Wollaton:

You wont get as much for your money in West Bridgford, but if you need good schooling, then its the only place in nottingham worth considering.0 -
I communted from nottingham to derby for 6 years moving to derbyshire last year. I would recommend wollaton(lovely big park nearby) or bramcote both near the a52 for derby and very nice (expensive areas) but should be able to get 3 bed semi for 200k.
alternatively derbyshire is cheaper depending on where you go we currently living in a village Crich just outside matlock and husband commutes back to nottingham down the a610 takes 40 minutes. We are moving to Belper though the nearest town but stil lcan see fields from teh town centre and the house we are buying backs on to fields - its much cheaper than some of the villages and has a train station with trains direct to nottingham city centre. If you are after the countryside theb Belper is a good bet as its a world heritage site and just minutes away from the beautiful peak district.0 -
Can't disagree with any of the Nottingham locations already recommended, I would add Keyworth/Tollerton area and if you want a bit more for your money, much of Cotgrave is nice. These also have some of the best schools in the area if your planning on being there for some time.0

I would avoid
Bulwell - for the most part
Bestwood Estate (Bestwood Village is nice)
Broxtowe - dont even stop at a red traffic light in that estate
St Anns
The Meadows
Hey I used to live in Broxtowe.... But I'd agree! :-P
Areas to avoid like the plague are Aspley, Broxtowe, Stockhill, Bestwood (but not bestwood village) Bilborough, Radford  , Lenton, Lenton Abbey, St Annes, and the Meadows.
Avoid Chaddeston in Derby!
Disireable areas in Nottingham are Cinderhill, Basford (old and new), Whitemoor isnt toooooo bad, but borders with aspley and stockhill, alfreton, chillwell, beeston, Hucknall, Bulwell, Forest Fields (apart from forest road), some people like hyson green, some dispise it.
I know I've missed a couple of areas out but theres quite a bit here for you to mull over!Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!0 -
Actually the school that has the most consistant results where 65% of all pupils get 5 or more A* - C GCSE grades is Djanogly City Technology College in Sherwood. They do way better than Nottingham high school, and there is no catchment area either!

Similar situation - I'll be working in Birmingham (close to New Street station, so will commute by train) and wife will be working in Nottingham.
we're thinking that derby is fairly midpointish, but open to other suggestions! Also, which areas close to Derby station are the nicer ones?Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!0 -
