Hi CupcakeLisa, prawns go into lots of things, curry, risotto, with pasta, mixed with rice for piaf, cooked with mexican seasoning and strips of sweet peppers for frjita fillings. (PennyGSD's receipe is almost the same as my fave pasta and prawns dish)
Marrinade in oil, garlic, lemon juice and chilli (1 hour max). Thread on skewers and grill under a very hot grill for a a few mins.
Always add the prawns at the last minute and cook them quickly so they don't go rubbery.
Veg Bouillion makes a good hot drink in cold weather. Lg teaspoon in a mug of boiling water. Useful as stock for lots of things, I always make coucous using bouillion rather than just water"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -
Hi Lisa,
I always have frozen prawns as a back up in the freezer. They defrost fast when put into cold water so I can always use them for quick meal when OH forgets to take something out of the freezer.
I have 1 speciality, no need of many prawns for this..
Fry chopped garlic in olive oil. Add bits of chorizo saussage and fry it until golden. Add tomato passata and italian spices, bit of chilli if you fancy, pepper, salt if needed (but unlikely, chorizo saussage should be salty enough). Add prawns and cook for while, until prawns are heated through. Pour this sauce over spaghetti. Sprinkle with cheese (parmesan or whatever is at home). Done.
Total time - 20 mins tops.
Easy, fast, veeeery tasty. One of my OH's favourites.0 -
I always have a bag of frozen prawns in freezer too. mainly because they are quick to defrost under cold running water (put them in a sieve to avoid losing them down the plughole). I always have some Mayfair curry sauce powder too. in ten minutes (including defrosting time) you have a prawn curry - just like from the chinese takeaway!
also - My granddaughters fave meal is a retro seventies dish, prawns in Marie Rose sauce!
defrost your prawns and mix together equal parts Mayo, Salad cream and Tomato Ketchup, add a splash of worcester sauce, salt and pepper. serve on salad! Prawn Cocktail!0 -
Hi CupcakeLisa,
As your thread has fallen down the board I've added it to our main thread on prawns which should give you lots of ideas.

I have a big bag of ready cooked prawns in the freezer. Are there any recipes I can do in the slow cooker that I can add the prawns in at the end?
I have to pick up at the airport on Sunday and would love something hot, tasty and filling ready when we get back without too much faffing around.
I don't want to buy too many expensive ingredients, and no pork products like chorizo, which seems to be in every recipe I have found so far.
I have rice, peas, spices, spuds, onions etc.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

You have to be careful not to overcook prawns they quickly go rubbery they literally only take a minute to cook, so I would make a curry sauce in the slow cooker and quickly fry the prawns just before serving and stir into the sauce.
Or you could make prawns in garlic butter or a white sauce with garlic and serve with new potatoes and salad.
Prawn Risotto is lovely I use a veg stock and add a red pepper chopped into large chunks, spring onions, mange tout, ad the prawns last just before serving the top with a sweet chilli sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds takes 20 minutes.
Spaghetti with prawns in a lemon sauce is tasty too, I add whatever veggies I have because my lot don't like chilli, so it is usually spring onions, and mange tout http://www.jamandclottedcream.co.uk/2010/04/chilli-garlic-and-prawn-spaghetti-with.htmlBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
