I think most reasonable people would disagree with you, first name + surname is the normal way people supply their name, not middle name + surname, and from a security point of view (and probably from the point of criminal intelligence) the databases that are linked to passenger info would be set up in the same way.

Why not save yourself all the problems and just change your name by Deed Poll to John David Smith? Get a new Passport with the new name and the problem won't re-occur.

OP, I don't understand your problem, you put the name down wrong on your booking so you have to pay an amendment fee. Did you have a good holiday?

How was this blackmail, did they threaten to make a tannoy announcement that your name is David not John? You made a mistake that cost you £55.00 and would have been at least double that with other budget airlines, you have absolutely no chance of getting this money back. Time to get over it and move on.

Its the way things are - I think you should just put it down to experience and deal with it.

My OH's name on his passport is Anthony. No one calls him that, not me, not his Mum not his work or friends. He's Tony and always has been to everyone.

Yet when we go away we book under the name Anthony. Its no great hardship its a piece of paper.

If it bothers you that much why not change your name by deed poll and change your legal documents it would save you any hassle in future.
