Wouldn't the simplest solution be to keep the bathroom door shut and eagle eye out for him looking for a replacement pee post ?

You would think wouldnt you.........but the intelligent/determined little monster can actually open the door! He jumps at the handle until his paws hit it and the door swings open!

We didnt believe it until we actually seen him do it!
Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........

People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!

    Baby gate?
What do you clean the area with once he's been? Sounds more like he's marking then just needing to 'go' - make sure it's a biological cleaner (washing powder dissolved in warm water) to remove the ammonia smell which will keep attracting him. Use it on the carpet too and any surrounding areas which may have been sprayed.
It aint over til I've done singing....

Have had a quick (very quick!) read of this thread and wondering if anyone can help is.

We have a 5 year old terrier cross who we got from Kennels 8 months ago. Muttley is a fab little addition to our family except for one little problem..........he keeps peeing in the bathroom, against the toilet! We have resorted to putting puppy pads down to stop it 'running' all over the place. I have tried leving the pad there for a few days (clean one obviously!) and then moving it to see if we can eventually get it to the door but its just not happening.

He gets walked twice a day........with countless toilet breaks in between his walks. Literally we can come back from an hour walk and he will run straight up stairs and pee!

Has anyone any suggestions how we break this habit or is he simply too old to be retrained now?

    Thanks

Ive heard one or two people say that their dog w ees in their bathroom against the toilet. This is probably a scent thing, and as its the family toilet (I suspect) its hard to entirely eliminate the smell of urine. I cant offer much help apart from suggesting you find him another irrestistable pee post outside but in easy reach. Maybe use the kitchen roll you mopped up with to mark a spot outside with pee and keep taking him to it, take him to it each time he has had a walk or each time he looks like he might be heading up for the bathroom.

Whilst I was typing this our little 5 month charmer just took a wizz in the lounge in his fave spot after coming back in from the garden, so I know its sometimes an uphill struggle. He is so good at night and in his crate if we go out, and we often have long periods without an accident, but what has happened is I have spent a week in hospital, and things have been allowed to slide by DH simply because he can only be in one place at once. Im using that "Urine off" spray and wipes which cost a fortune, but Im thinking of going on to bio powder soon. We have covered this fave pee area in plastic sheet so the carpet isnt constantly soaked, but I can also see the limitations in this method too. Its just that my carpet is only 7 months old!!

Its just a matter of keeping at it; they get it eventually.

Ours doesnt pee on his walks; he waits until he gets home then we take him straight into the back garden where he does it. If we didnt he would probably do it in the house.
