This is true, I'm thinking hard about mine, but when I think about the amount of memory ,40gb, for the money, and the battery life and the chance to view pics, I'm tempted to keep it.

Its a cheap portable drive for any data, with the advantage of a screen.

The equivalent memory card capacity for digital camera use would cost a fortune, even at £10/gb.

I suppose the next best/ cheapest alternative for storage and portability would be a Laptop!, and if you have a laptop, you might think the flashtrax more portable..........so its a tough one for me!

If the PVR had a timer for recording tv then this flashtrax would be unbeatable!

I'm actually wondering if I should bin my PSP for this. Most of the time, I watch movies/videos whilst travelling. I barely play games on mine and hate having to convert my xvids to MP4 to watch. Plus the capacity is rubbish on the PSP since you have to buy Memorysticks.

Only thing which I'm not sure about is screen size

For me, capacity and portability are the primary reason for wanting one.

A 1GB 133x Kingston card cost me a bit more than £25 from Offtek and will give me enough for at least a day's photos. I'd rather have this thing in my hotel safe than losing a load of memory cards if my camera is stolen. And for long bus/train/plane journeys, perfect little media player.

Not bothered about PVR though - I can copy my media centre recorded programmes or rip DVDs onto this if I really want. And a laptop is way too bulky.

Yes, the screen's a bit small at 3.6" (just bought the Sanyo digital camera spotted in Grabbit with a 3" whopper on the back!) but to me the screen is just a bonus on this thing - i can take cables with me and (try!) to rig up to a hotel TV if I really want.
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

I must say it is a good piece of kit ....

however ... when i ran some divx films on it , sound didnt come thru , also ran some mpg on it and they werent reconised on the HD. I think it was the way the divx was encoded. And also I did buy it with the just the sole intenion of trying it out. If I did like it and was justified then I would keep it , but obviously the lack of a timer on the pvr .. plus like alot of my gagdets would I use it . I think I was buying it because it was a good deal

    Several pro

. i like the idea of batteries cause I wouldnt always need the power supply (this is one thing that pisses me off about portable HD , having that extra power lead) . Tho TBH with the new 2.5 disk cadies you dont need power leads ...

Like the idea of play divx anywhere I want ... if I worked nights or on long shifts I suppose this would be perfect.

I like the idea of a radio as well as a mp3 player ...

I think the best thing to do , is buy it ... and then if you dont like it , simply return it . Worth a gamble ...

The software here http://divx.ppccool.com/ is very good for converting video to a compatible standard. Its very fast and best of all its free.

I have a load of films in mp4 format for mobile phones, including some vv recents like scary movie 4, these were d/l from mobile phone forums, and they work great on the flashtrax.
Its a pain coverting a dvd via a codec to run on a phone or psp, so look out for some forums with them already done for you to d/l to run on a psp mobile or flashtrax.

Ok - $1m question - Is the quality of display as good as a video ipod? I have a video ipod but like the idea of the bigger screen - more memory and longer battery life and not being so fussy about the video format (ipod is V fussy!), but is the screen quality the same - ipod vid is FANTASTIC quality...COuld sell ipod and buy fastrax and have £50 or so in pocket!!

The screen is bigger but poor quality, nothing like an Ipod - but you kind of get used to it! But there again - you can't really use it like an Ipod cos it's much bigger.
