I'm not sure if it works out more cost-effective over a given period of time to buy the expensive brand or to buy & replace a number of cheaper ones.
I think there's probably not much in it.
For a washing machine, you should also look at the energy rating and the drum size.

Miele are fantastic! Had a Miele vacumn cleaner for years with no problems - bought their oven and hob last year and its also brilliant. Bosch are pretty good too if you cant afford Miele. Whatever you buy don't buy it from Currys or Tesco. Customer service is not a word in either of their vocabularies!! Get John Lewis to price match and you can't go wrong.
  • Another proud Miele owner here :) I have got the WT2670 washer/dryer and the quick wash which is labelled express on my machine, spins at 1600 (max.).
I must mention that all Mieles come with a water cut off box thingy (technical term :)) attached to the water inlet pipe. If you haven't got a lot of room where all the pipes fit, be warned it is a tight fit. I have got a Miele dishwasher as well, and the plumber sweat blood and tears trying to fit both these box things in. They are about the size of an old cassette tape, but twice as thick.
We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Is that at the back of the machine? I don't mind if the machine sticks out a bit as it goes in my utility room but there is not much room either side because of a cupboard and tumble dryer

    From the Which? website:

"Miele is currently the undisputed king of our washing machines tests. Few can match its consistently high scoring and reliable freestanding and built-in washing machines."

My Miele fridge and dishwasher are excellent, I'll be replacing all my appliances with Miele as the current ones expire...

It's at the end of the cold water inlet pipe. Not the end that goes into the washing machine, but the end that connects to the water supply. (I am not great at explaining technical things as you can see). My plumber had a problem because of the cupboard side panel next to the dishwasher. It had a hole cut out, with enough room to fit two cold "bog standard" inlet pipes. I ended up having some of the side of the cupboard hacked away. You can't see it though, because the dishwasher is butted up right next to it. If you understand my waffle, you deserve a medal! :o

Miele here too it took me a long time to
understand the concept that you buy
one machine and never have to buy another.

Before I got mine I was in john Lewis buying
hoover bags and asked the lady which was the
most reliable washing machine they sold. Before she
could answer seven of the eight people in the queue
behind me all said get a Miele, all of them had been
using them for between 11 to 23 years, problem free.
One woman in the queue had bought hers secondhand
it was a 11 years old when she got it and had been using
    it for 17 years herself.
It turned into quite a conversation and it was
generaly agreed that youi can kiss goodbye to
the repair man as none of them had ever needed
    any repairs doing.

This was enough to convince me and I saved like mad
and bought one, they are economical on the electric,
totaly silent in use exept for the final spin, built like a
tank.its the best thing in my kitchen and when I can
manage it one day I will get the matching tumble dryer
    and dishwasher.

Also no one in JL ever mentioned about strengthened
floors, sounds like a bit of kidoligy to me

my box thingy is on the back of the machine
they seem to have made an inlet so it does
not stick out must be something they have
altered so its more flush fitting because mine
does not stick out,if that makes sense I
am rubbish too at describing stuff like this
too, fits snug to the back of the wall.
