I went into John Lewis to buy a Miele washing machine and was asked by the assistant what type of floor I had in the kitchen. He told me that because they are so heavy they need a good solid floor to take the weight and that my suspended wooden floor would need strengthening first.

I needed a machine so bought a Bosch which I am happy with but would have liked a Miele as my dishwasher is superb.

Was he just telling porky pies or is this correct? wouldn't have thought he would have talked himself out of a larger sale.
  • I can well believe the need for a strong floor, a Miele washing machine is really hefty - mine never does the jiggy jiggy thing when spinning that some cheap machines do. I have several Miele items, here are the approximate age and cost of them
Cat & Dog vacuum cleaner (13 years £180)
    Dishwasher (6 years £500ish )
    Washing machine ( 6 years £550)
Fridge freezer (1 year £600 discontinued model)

As you can see, I have bought the lower end of the Miele price range and always shop around for best price. I may not have all the bells and whistles but the build quality is still there and the basic spec is sufficient for most peoples needs. I could have bought cheaper but I hope these will have a very long life, unlike cheaper brands. I like the peace of mind that hopefully I can avoid the hassle of being without a major domestic appliance and having to rush round trying to replace it every few years.

I have a miele washing machine and cannot fault it,I was suprised at how good and quiet (on spin)it was and 3-4 years later it is still good and still quiet!
I have heard they expect their machines to last on average of 15 to 20 years?

This might be worth a punt, if you are not putting it on show (still fully guaranteed I believe) http://www.clearance-comet.co.uk/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=107637709&prmenbr=37087214&aunbr=107984419

After calling out the Hotpoint engineer (under contract fortunately) for the umpteenth time I asked him what he would recommend for replacement. He said Bosch/Miele - the general rule of thumb being anything German as their engineering is first class.

Miele Prestige Plus 6 washer and Honeycomb T7734 dryer here.

    Luxury!

The spin speed on the washer leaves clothes almost dry so minimal time in the dryer.

The first thing we had to get used to was the quietness. Our previous washers sounded like the space shuttle backfiring.

Often I wander into the kitchen hours after I've put the washer on to discover I've forgotten it was on and it's been finished for ages! The dryer at least has a buzzer which can be activated to alert you it's ended! (I have a solid kitchen floor which obviously makes a huge difference as regards noise levels with any make).

Anyway - one final thing is that I got 5 years on site full repairs/spares contract included. The washer already had 5 years and if you bought the dryer at the same time that was included!

I'm well pleased with my purchase.

The only thing I miss is the Hotpoint engineer. He was a nice chap and I used to enjoy chewing the cud over a coffee with him.

I'll also echo others here...if you can afford it, Miele are definitely the best. One thing to bear in mind (i was told this by Miele's technical dept) is that the performance and build quality of a "low" end Miele appliance will be identical to the more expensive models in the range, the higher priced models will usually have better looks, silver in colour rather than white and will have some extra programmes/features which most people will probably never use. Go to https://www.miele.co.uk, and also have a look at reviews on https://www.which.co.uk and on https://www.reevoo.com for Miele. Once you've worked out which model(s) you want to buy, go to https://www.whiteboxdeals.co.uk to get best prices. This is what i paid last year (Dec 08) for my appliances when i moved into my new home: (all came with 5 year warranty except fridge freezer)

    Miele W1714 washer - 620 notes
    Miele T7644C dryer (condenser) - 430 notes
    Miele G1143SC dishwasher - 480 notes
    Miele KDN12823S 11.2 cu.f fridge freezer - 440 notes

    Good luck!

my current machine is a Hotpoint - rubbish! It has a 1600 spin on all washing programmes apart from the quick 40 min wash when it spins at 800. I can't alter it so it drives me mad. Does the Miele still use fast spin in quick wash. I can't find it mentioning that in any reviews although no one as put that as a negative on a review! Thanks again. You are all so helpful on here

On my Miele W1714 washer, it spins at up to the maximum 1400 speed on the quick wash cycle. And here's the best bit: because the clothes come out almost dry from the washer, my Miele tumble dryer only takes 30-40 mins to dry a full load on 'normal' dry sensor setting. My old Ariston (bluuurggghhhh!) washer dryer used to take around 2 hours to dry a full load!!! (after a 1200 spin)
  • My Miele W412 half hour quick wash spins at the maximum 1400. I used to have a seperate free standing spinner that was 2000+ speed but got rid of it as it couldn`t get any more water out of clothes after they were washed in the Miele.
