(good that feels a lot better)
Firstly have a looksie at this thread about a bulge in my front nearside car tyre... Click Here
Firstly, I had four tyres fitted at Krap-Fit but recently I noticed a cut and also a bulge in the front nearside. I went back and they said that it is blistering and I need a new front tyre. I went away, posted the thread (above) and got advice from the good fellows on the Motoring Board (cheers guys :T). I went back today to Kwik-Fit and they again said "yeah you don't wanna be driving on a blistering tyre - it could blow out on you".
I went round the corner to a little independent garage recommended by a mate of mine and the bloke there took one look, felt the inner wall of the tyre and said "Nothing to worry about mate, it's just where the tyre is joined up during the manufacturing process". He said there was nothing to worry about in respect to the safety of it.
I'm so very annoyed about Kwik, sorry, Krap-Fit lying to me, not on one occasion, but twice, by two different technicians. They even quoted me a price for a new tyre which was nearly double what the little independent garage quoted (I asked out of interest how much a new tyre was - nice honest bloke said £30.20 fully fitted - Krap Fit said £58 to supply & fit) Also they never once mentioned that there was the possibility it was a manufacturer's warranty issue as it could not have been made properly.
So not only did they try to con me into replacing a perfectly good tyre, they also tried to charge me almost double the price for a replacement!!!

Kwik Fit's "technicians" in my experience know very little about mechanics and simply replace parts even if this is not required. When I first started driving about 15 years ago, my old fiesta (the silver bullet) needed new brake pads. Kwik Fit looked at it for me and decided i needed, new pads, brake shoes, drums, discs, master cylinder and servo at a price of £ 400.00! This was even more of a suprise considering the car did not have servo assisted braking (it was pretty old). In the end a set of £8 brake pads from Halfords did the trick.
In an unrelated incident a few months later, I was driving along when I was very nearly hit by a flying wheel which bounced just over my car. I stopped and saw another car (minus 1 wheel) in the ditch. The owner had just come from a Kwik Fit garage and they had not replaced it properly! Kwik Fit in the end paid him a "sweetener" to keep it quiet.
I'd rather walk everywhere than take my car to them!0 -
Hang on a second, did I miss something?!?!
Most of the people on the original thread said that "but if you were to put it on the car, then it would be illegal" and that there is a posability of a blow out, which is what the Kwik Fit bloke said. So whats the problem, sounds like the Kwik Fit bloke was right to me!??!

if there is a bulge in the tyre it should be changed,i just did my driving test 3 weeks ago and one of my maintainence questions was about checking my tyres,if there is a bulger or any rips then the tyre should be changed because this can result in a blow out,not nice especially at high speed. Finally got rent arrears paid off and now have an extra £300 per month, life looks a little bit sweeter.:T0

No Morph3us, the Kwik Fit morons were definitely wrong and in any case they tried to sell me a tyre for double the price of their nearest competitor. :rotfl:
The comments on the thread were becuause it (the tyre) looked like there was a bulge on the picture, and they could not see or feel round on the other (inner) side of the tyre. The moron in Kwik-Fit just felt the outer wall and just said "yeah it's a blister - get a new tyre". It was only MSE'r "sk1n" who gave the spot-on diagnosis. :T He and the bloke in the honest garage who said there wasn't a problem as he explained it was where the tyre is joined. So, the zombies in Kwik Fit are wrong and besides they still tried to rip me off on a new tyre being almost double the price.spacey0 -
Kwik fit put my car (impreza) up on the ramp and told me my brake cables were rotting and need to be replaced asap. A friend of mine, who is an avid rally car fan informed me that, they must have x-ray vision because the brake pipes for the impreza are actually in the car, under the sill. You have to remove carpet trim and lift up carpet to get to them.
I've never been back to them and told all my friends to avoid.A BEE STUNG MY BOTTOM... NOW MY BOTTOMS BIG :think:0 -

First you said that you noticed a bulge, going off that information, KwikFit were right!
If there wasn't a bulge (which you said there was) then fair enough, but I can only go off the information you give!
My girlfriend had a bulge in her tyre and it blew, luckily at very low speed and all was well, although the state of the tyre afterwards, she was lucky.
As for KwikFit trying to charge you double, its a free country, they can charge what they like. You can't really slate them for that, if you don't like their prices then don't go there.
Like you said, you are probably much better at the independents!

A few years ago my OH took his old Volvo to Kwikfit for a service and they recommended he have the brake pads replaced. When he picked the car up and drove away, the brakes failed completely and left him rolling down a ramp onto a dual carriageway. He drove back in to the garage where the car was "sorted out" and his service charge refunded!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

You pictures look like the ones in the bottom two illustrations.
Maybe you should reconsider getting you tyre changed.

I've had the opposite experience with Kwik-Fit. My local Citroen main dealer told me the exhaust on my car needed replacement as it was rusted through and blowing. I asked my local Kwik-Fit to quote me for the work and was shown that there was nothing wrong with it, just a little rust around a bracket. The Citroen dealer wanted to charge me £300, Kwik-Fit charged me nothing.
On another occasion I urgently needed to replace two tyres and on a Sunday morning Kwik-Fit arranged for a tyre to be brought by taxi from another branch to get me on the road again.0
