Kwik-Fit

chrisw wrote:I took my car into Kwik fit for an exhaust as they were about £50 cheaper than anywhere else. I was sat there for an hour and a half and kept seeing fitters walk past with hammers and levers and there was a hell of a din out the back. Eventually they came in, apologised for the delay and said the exhaust must have been the wrong one as it didn't fit, but it did now!
Anyway, it looks a bit lopsided but it's been ok for the last 18 months and I'm getting rid of the car soon.
I'm not overly keen on them, especially not so now. I need to check whether the oil filter they fitted to my car has a non-return valve because when I start it in the morning I find the engine makes a scraping metal sound, because the oil is all down in the bottom of the engine. Should have got a dealer genuine but I didn't realise that kwik fit used rubbish sub-standard parts. :rolleyes:That, is an excellent question...0 -
Over the past 4 years I have had 2 second hand ford Fiestas
I felt after about 3 months (on both cars) that the tracking was out, so I took it to kwik fit because it is local, and I thought trustworthy.
Both times they told be I needed a new 'bush' and wishbone, on the same side on both card (one was 11 years old and the other about 6)
I just found it really hard to believe that both cars needed tyhis done.
First time I got it done (not long passed by driving test and thought 'these guys know what they're on about') second time I told them I would get a quote from another garage and lowe and behold, found that it WAS the tracking
Cost for new bush and wishbone + fitting = £127.50
Cost for another local garage for tracking = £10.50
Get that right up your pipe KF

My local branch is like a muppet show. They tried to do the tracking on my Chrysler Voyager 6 times and sill couldn't get it right (even after trashing 4 front tyres).
Left my car on the ramp overnight when it broke, (phone call of sorry mate, it's stuck on the ramp. you can collect it tomorrow).
Tried to charge £120 for new tyre because they 'thought' the puncture ws too close to the sidewall. (local TBE was £30 for a proper heat vulcanised repair, 14000 miles later still good).
However in all fairness the original manager??!?!?!?, OK he was there for 6 months was a decent straight bloke who did a good job and kept me as a customer for a while.
When I last looked for tyres I looked at the main internet sites for a price, took that to KF who laughed and said they weren't interested in comparisons, they have their price. So whent to the same TBE who offered a better price initially.

Sometimes they are good, sometimes not so good. Visit them only if the particular branch is recommended!0 -

Most of the people on the original thread said that "but if you were to put it on the car, then it would be illegal" and that there is a posability of a blow out, which is what the Kwik Fit bloke said. So whats the problem, sounds like the Kwik Fit bloke was right to me!??!

The KF blokes were saying the tyre was blistered when it wasn't, they rightly (I think) came to the conclusion the scratch was nothing to worry about. It is the blister diagnosis which is the problem being highlighted here.0 -
Ive just got a letter from Michellin regarding my faulty tyre, say go back to Costco and they will refund you 55% of the price I paid for it. Costco at first said it looks like its the fault of the puncture that I had, so its worth pushing them if your sure that it wasn't your own fault.0
