i no that u might have been peeved with them but they have standards of the tyres frm wot i hav read in your post kwikfit were only doing what is right if u have driven on a flat tyre and may not of even noticed u have bcuz belive people do even i have and i actually work for kwikfit sadly lol

it causes it to wear down the tyre wall and cause cracks even if ran on for a few miles and wher the puncture is and the size of the punture also affects it if its more than 3mm the hole that is it cant be repaired if anybody sez they can i wouldnt trust them bcus the patch they use to repair is only 3mm wide thats the only size they do and is due to safety standards.

also if the puncture was on the tyre wall then its actually illegal to repair and would have to be replaced due to the fact of safety. any questions about kwik fit give me a e-mail or woteva and id b happy to tell u all.

by the way ive actually left the company now due to my concerns with the way they treat the employees if u requested info about this just give me a shout
you seem to be getting in a muddle with your measurements, the minimum tread depth left on a tyre is 2mm for a repair, and the maximum diameter of any hole or puncture is 6mm, i get very angry with people who feel they have been "ripped off" when all we are doing is protecting peoples safety, after all, if we repaired a tyre that was unfit for repair, we would be the first people that would get slagged off for doing so. so please dont run us into the ground until you have done your homework into what is safe and what is not. I am sure you would not want a blow out at 70mph because some garage had repaired a tyre that was unfit to do so. I have seen blown out tyres because small garages have done repairs on the sidewall, and people have ended up in the wrong lane of the carriageway because of this! Please dont take any risks with your tyres, they are what keeps you on the road!

Thought this was an appropriate thread to voice my concerns. Kwik Fit are horrendous but not as bad as the Car Clinic, here's my story (on a thread of its own) -

I took my car to the Car Clinic last summer, due to it blowing out blue smoke and juddering a lot. They had a look, called me back and confirmed that they couldn't see anything wrong. I asked them how much they would charge me for this and they said 'nothing'. I was delighted, singing their praises etc etc. November last year comes, along with a Service by them. They called me and said that there was oil all over the engine and asked if I had been overfilling it with oil and I replied that I was not. There was oil in the air fiter etc. They told me that the total cost to fix this (i.e. taking the engine apart etc to clean it) would be £289. I needed my car and so I agreed. A couple of months later, the car started doing the same again but this time it was losing power also. I took it for it's MOT in March this year and got a call from them while at work. Apparently, it had failed on emissions which he said meant that my head gasket needed replaced along with a couple of other things. I was quoted £870. I obviously couldnt afford this and so told him that I would leave it and would pick up my car. 2 weeks later (last night in fact), a friend came to look at the car and told me he would fix it for me for a couple of pints. After looking at the car, he told me that there was nothing wrong with the head gasket at all!! He opened the bonnet and showed me all the oil which was runny (as it should be) all over the engine. There was oil pooling in the air filter etc. Car idles fine, heating works and car doesn't overheat. No water running out of exhaust, nothing. He also found that one of the pipes which comes out of the oil tank to go through the engine had burst, hence oil. He also pulled out the pipe and unravelled tape which was put round it!!! This is the job that the Car Clinic had charged me £289 to fix!!! I am absolutely raging that they were going to charge me £870 for a headgasket which is fine and that they charged me £289 to clean my engine and put TAPE round the pipe  . Maybe they saw a woman and thought their luck was in. Never going back there again! Stay away!!!

Do you have legal expenses cover on home insurance? If so, call them up and get some advice on the situation to claim back what you paid.

If not, I suggest you go to CAB and get their advice on getting your money back through the small claims court. You will probably get better advice if you post this in a new thread on the Consumer Rights board.

It's one thing to post feedback about the scammers but they still have your money and you should try to get it back.

No home insurance as I'm back living with my folks. Will try calling the CAB though to see where I stand. I've posted this in the Consumer Rights board as advised. Thanks for this.

If your parents have legal cover on their home insurance it normally covers the rest of the immediate family living with them. If they do not have it the Insurers normally give free legal advice over the phone
  • The quality and efficiency of most organisations depends on the person at the top, either locally or nationally. The quality of a school, for example, is determined almost entirely by the abilities of the headmaster.

Most of the KwikFit centeres I have visited have provided a service I would rate as poor, or even deplorable, but by accident I discovered the KwikFit in Whitstable, Kent. As long as this branch is managed by a guy called Richard Henthorn, I'll continue to use it for all my day-to-day servicing and MOTs. He seems to have managed to imbue his entire staff with a work ethic of which BMW might well be proud.

I just thought I'd mention this to boost the alarmingly small percentage of contented contributors to this thread.
