You can sort of consider the box plot as a normal distribution if this helps. The centre line is the peak of the normal distribution. See this picture

I am guessing the idea here is that for the answer to your question you won't have a perfect distribution and it will be skewed one way.

There might also be some outliers (dots outside the extreme end of the box plot) which would be important to note. If something comes to mind why that person may be an extreme case, it's worth noting why.

well you could upload it on photobucket or something.

i'm not going to give you a full answer,, just a general idea to help you.

did you geet the other questions correct i.e. onetailed/two tailed, mean, medians etc? You should be getting those ones
i have an answer for them , lol

Q1. What design does this study utilise? Explain your reasons for choosing that design.

The study utilises a within subject design. A within subjects design is an experiment in which the same group of subjects serves in more than one treatment. In this study the participants worked both alone and within a group.

Q2. What is the studies hypothesis? Is its one tailed or two tailed?

The studies hypothesis is that participants will perform better in a group with the support of peers compared to working alone; the test is a two tailed T test.

Q3. Obtain Means and standard deviations for the working alone condition

    Mean 54.7.
    Standard deviation 8.4

Q4 Obtain the Median, Maximum and Minimum scores for the working in a group condition.

    Median 36
    Minimum 26
    Maximum 40

Q5. If you were to go on and analyse this data set which inferential test would be most appropriate?

    Spearman’s Correlation.

Q8. Obtain Means and standard deviations for the three conditions

    Mean
    Std. Deviation
    RI
    69.25
    7.83
    IP
    48.50
    5.26
    SBI
    82.62
    8.02

Q10. If you were to go on and analyse this data set which inferential test would be most appropriate?

    ANOVA.

    Some thoughts

Q2. Why is it a two-tailed test? Remember you have a directional hypothesis! I.e. it is predicted performance will improve.

Q5 - Why do you think it is a Spearman's correlation? Could it be something else? Read about the different types of t-tests and see if maybe one of those applies.

Q10 - why is it an ANOVA test? (probably best to say just to show you haven't plucked the test out of thin air). Can't say I've thought about whether that is the correct answer but if you can say why it is the correct test then you're closer to the correct answer.

I hope your lecturers don't find this post :D I'd be inclined to quickly remove the questions when the work is handed in, lol. I'm deliberately trying to not give you the answers as it's better you learn why rather than just have someone do the work for you.

er, q1 is vague tbh, it would depend on what u were taught, such a question didnt feature in my studies

q2 needs checking, if you want to be picky your hypothesis should be more specific, and as said, you need to check whether it it 1 or 2 tailed..

q3 double check figures... do you need to show working out? I came out with different figures, yyou should show working out on the papper so the lecturer knows what you were doing. in fact it owuld help if i saw how you got those figures

    q4 seems correct

q5 what kind of data is it? never give a simple one word answer... if you say spearmans explain why... double check question though

told you i was bloody useless. spss gave the figures.so no working .no point in looking @ b if i spent all day on a and its wrong
  • I could be wrong

I don't remember how spss worked, does it work out standard deviation for you just by entering in the figures?

The mean works out to 54.75 on a normal calculator, but maybe SPSS rounds it down, but I don't see why it should as that .5 is significant and should be rounded up anyway? :s
