spss help anyone ?

Okay this is probably really basic stuff, but having spending hours on it twice and failing badly twice this is my last chance so any help is appreciated. I have passed everything else including exams but this stuff really stumps and stresses me out.
Complete Part A and B.
Part A
Read the following outlines and follow the instructions completing the blanks where instructed. At completion of the test add an anonymous marking sheet to your answer sheet.
Section 1: Part 1
A Psychologist was interested in the effectiveness of scaffolding in children learning to solve puzzles as the literature suggests that children would benefits from the use of peer support. A group of children were tested twice in a month; they either tried to solve the puzzles on their own or in the other session in a group of 5. The percentage of errors made in obtaining a solution to 12 puzzles was measured.

Q1. What design does this study utilise? Explain your reasons for choosing that design.
Q2. What is the studies hypothesis? Is its one tailed or two tailed?
Q3. Obtain Means and standard deviations for the working alone condition
Q4 Obtain the Median, Maximum and Minimum scores for the working in a group condition.
Q5. If you were to go on and analyse this data set which inferential test would be most appropriate?

Part A Section 2.
A Sports Psychologist was interested in the use of visual imagery techniques in the coaching of professional golfers. The sports performance literature predicts that task specific “coaching” should improve performance. A set of golfers were randomly split into three groups, one group using relaxation imagery (RI) another using imagery perspective (IP) and the third using Swing Based Imagery (SBI). They completed a set of putting and chipping tests and their cumulative accuracy of the strokes were calculated.

Q7. What is the studies hypothesis? Is it one tailed or two tailed?

Q8. Obtain Means and standard deviations for the three conditions
Q9. Obtain a box plot for the three conditions. Based on the information in the box plot speculate on the likelihood of finding a significant effect?
Q10. If you were to go on and analyse this data set which inferential test would be most appropriate?

Section B
This study was designed to test the idea that changes made to an expressing face were detected differently. All faces had the same manipulation made to them, the facial expression changed in each condition. The study wished to find out of expressing faces were detected differently from neutral faces.
Participants were split into three groups and presented with one condition each
Raw data is contained below.

Your task is to take this data and analyse it using the appropriate statistical tests and to write in your answers to each question, justifying each answer when requested.

Q1. Provide means, standard deviation and standard errors for each expression category (write in your answer).
Angry

Happy

Neutral

Q2. Obtain a boxplot (attach it to your submission), based on that boxplot speculate where you think the differences may be in the data set (justify your answer).

Q3. Carryout the appropriate statistical analysis of the data, using APA reporting convention report the main effect. Write in your answer

Q3b. Is this a significant effect? Justify your answer.

Q4. Carryout appropriate post hoc analysis and report where the differences are (write in your answer).

  • Thats a long test and I wouldn't do it for you. This stuff can be googled and is quite simple onc eyou know what they are asking. Were you not given a textbook to work from?

I know how you feel because loads of people in my class failed an spss assignment

Simple if you understand lol, i have googled spent hours on the last two tries, i imagine it is simple once you get the hang of it, but i just cant do it.
  • You should be able to find step by step guides for boxplots.. standard deviations etc online, or at least be given print outs from your course, as I did?
  • Here's some tutorials on how to use spss:
    http://academic.uofs.edu/department/psych/methods/cannon99/spssmain.html
    http://pages.infinit.net/rlevesqu/spss.htm
    http://www.psych.utoronto.ca/courses/c1/spss/toc.htm
Brought to you by the awesome power of google - seriously, I just typed "spss tutorial" in. I often find I understand something better if I hear/see it explained in a few different ways.
As you don't say what part of using spss you're having trouble with, I can't help you any further than that. And no, I won't do your homework for you. It's a test of your abilities, not any of ours!

You haven't said which bit you're having problems with, or what sort of help you want. You also haven't said if it's a mock or practice test or the actual, graded exam.

On the information you have given me I can tell you where you'll find the answers to the questions i.e. which ones are basic "using spss" related, stats, etc but going off what you've said I have no idea if this would be helpful to you or not. However, with a straightforward set of instructions on how to use spss, you should be able to work through most of section A fairly easily - it's just a case of putting the numbers into the program and knowing which buttons to press.

One failed exam will not ruin your entire degree. If it helps you to de-stress a bit, you might want to try working out what you'd do if you did fail this exam, that way you can relax a little.

[OT] - Sarcasm, like humour, art and chocolate, is never necessary or needed, but it does make life that little bit more interesting. [/OT]

Okay its a graded assesment that i have failed twice an this is my last time to pass it , if i dont my dissertation proposal wont be accepted i wont get into my 4th and final year . I obviously dont get any of it or i would have managed to scrape a pass at 40 % i havent managed 30 % in 1st two attempts.
  • What you need to know to pass this test:
How to input your data into the SPSS program:
    Try here - http://core.ecu.edu/psyc/wuenschk/SPSS/SPSS-Intro.doc

    A .
    1) Psychology specific info concerning experimental design in psychology - that would be in your course notes or textbook.
    2) Read the question - half the answer is in it. The other half requires you to know the difference between one and 2-tailed hypotheses.
    3) How to work SPSS - basically just what data to select and which button to press. Instructions are in the tutorial at the top.
    4) As no 3.
    5) How to pick a suitable test - try here?
    http://www.datastep.com/Statistical_Selection_Guide.html
    6) -10) as for 1-5.
    B
    1) SPSS
    2) SPSS/basic stats
    3) Info from your course
    4) SPSS/stats info

I hope that's of some help to you. I don't really feel comfortable doing more than saying where you should be able to find the information you need.
