Tattoo suggestions

  • I would say think about it really hard before finally deciding on what and where you want it done.
I have a few tattoos (love heart on hip, star on my hand, 3 stars behind my ear, 3 stars on my shoulder, 3 stars on the back of each leg)

None of them hurt as much as what you would expect them too, but it does depend on the individual and their own pain threshold.
If it's your first one i would say go for something small, which won't take long to do. And try and get it somewhere that can be easily covered up with clothes...you never know how you will feel it about in 10 years time.

Tattoos are a personal thing, i have seen the so called "chavvy" tattoos people have spoke about, things like winnie the poohs and peoples names etc. I would never get anything like that, all of my tattoos mean something different and special to me. For example my wee star on my hand i got not long after my gran died, and to me i think of her as a wee star in the sky looking down one me. It's also on my left hand, because if i ever get married one day (i'm only 22) i want to know that shes going to be there at my side.

So yeah, i would say go for it, if your really sure about it. But make sure you know exactly what you want first, don't just go in and pick something off the wall. Have an idea in your mind what you want, most places will be happy to draw something up for you if you have an idea of what you want, and can change it to suit you. Never get into the chair unless your 100% happy and sure thats what you want!!

    HTH good luck!

Another good research tip is to watch Miami Ink. If you have Sky, it's on DMAX all the time. It's such a good programme and there are some awesome designs on there!

Just a thought, but a tattoo as a present from a boyfriend might be a bit, um, perminant - i think its a lovely idea, but unfortuantely many tattoos outlive relationships and even though (i imagine) you wont be having his name tattooed on you, whenever you look at that tattoo you will think of him and therefore might not be the best idea for some people

Sorry if thats negative, its not meant to be :D

Well, this doesn't happen to me in the street or anything but I have a job which involves my body being on display so it is clearly visible if I have any tattoos or not.. :D

    !!!!!! star?

Struggling to think of any other job which would involve every part of your body being on display.
  • I have 3 tatoos, i love them all. I was 30 before i sat in the chair due to my indecisiveness. I agree that you have to think long and hard before you go ahead, but totally disagree with them looking cheap or chavvy.

I have one on each foot (doesn't sag). The first one i ever had was my children's names in scroll writing. The other foot has cherry blossoms (meaning life is short) and is really pretty. I also have a cross on my back with rosary beads around it saying 'only god can judge' I am pleased with them all.

You will have to research your artist. Please don't go to a 'scratcher' who can only do what's on his boards. All of my tatoos where drawn out before i sat in the chair and are custom made. DH has two half sleeves, this was mainly to cover-up old yukky tatoos done by a scratcher when he was 18. Time spent researching your artist and your design will not be wasted.

www.sistersammy.com, is the artist i used and who is currently 'working' on dh.

All my tattoos are very discrete, completely unique and personal to me. ;)

That's what everyone who has a tattoo says! Let's be honest, it's more individual not to have one these days.

OP, if my hubby suggested getting me tattooed, I'd leave him. Don't do it.

Wanted a tattoo when I was younger, but in a kinda "it would be cool" way, not a "must have it" way, even went to get it once, but couldn't be bothered to wait in line.

Not overly glad I didn't get it, not overly upset, either - I clearly wasn't too bothered then and am still not now - from your OP you sound just as bothered...with that in mind, I probably wouldn't get one. Must be *something* else you fancy - of all the reasons to get a tattoo, I don't think "I couldn't think of anything else" is a good one :)

If you do get one, make it non-visible to keep your employment options open and start small.

One of my friends, when I was younger, had a big chinese dragon circling round her belly. It had the tongue sticking out and her naval piercing looked like a tongue piercing on the dragon. Was at once brilliant and horrifying. Wonder how that would look if she got preggers :)

My sister has a red cartoon devil - really not my thing.

I like sleeves, particularly the cute cupcakes people get on them, but personally I'd rather have something I can choose to conceal if I want to. Some people want to have theirs always on display, for others it's not as easy - just as we can't always choose to wear a T-shirt everyday ;) So think about what suits you.
