Making Cards - Ideas for a card craft beginner (Part 3)

Hi Rusty. Yes, I have a Bookatrix board but I see you've already been offered some blanks by Dragonllew (I get up late :rotfl: ). I put some Bookatrix cards on my blog yesterday although mine were for Christening/birth congrats so not the style you're probably thinking of. Have you googled Bookatrix card samples? I know the Glitter Girls used to have a gallery on their website, not sure if they still do as it's a very long time since I've been there. That would give you some ideas of style if you haven't yet got something in mind.
Anyway, if you have some specific card stock in mind and want me to score it for you, or whatever, PM me, but I might be a little late if you've already arranged something with Dragonllew.
Thankyou for your kind offer, I shall wait for Dragonllew's reply first (as she was very kind to offer first.) If not then I shall buy some off you if you don't mind?
I had a quick sneak a peak on your blog at your bookatrix and WOW!!! I love them all, my favourite one is the first though!! not sure I could make anything as beautiful!! Think I need to do some more digging for inspiration!
Well DS has gone visiting his dad til sunday leaving us 3 poorly people to wallow in self pity. OH really was ill this morning, his whole body has had an allergic reaction to his antibiotics so we had to call the doctor! luckily they have prescribed a different antibiotic so he is back on the road to recovery!
We also went to boundary mill as I had an invitation to their sale event (how posh do I sound!) anyway the invite gave me an extra 10% off everything including sale prices!! ... looked round the craft stuff and very very little was reduced!! very dissapointing! but I did spot the new range by papermania! wow it is so pretty! It is called Honey & Hugs.
guess what ... OH bought me some :j ... told me it was christmas again! .... so I have the 12x12 papers, decoupage & pyramyge, alphabet transfers and then some embellishments to match my DCWV sweet stack!! I am so chuffed :j
I only went in the vain hope that DCWV papers would all have some reductions. but nothing!! ... I am seriously tempted to buy bulk and try and sell what I don't need!! I can get 12x12 papers for £4 a pack but the shops sell them at £20 a pack!!!! only problem is that I have to buy 3 packs at a time etc!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
ali - I recycle my christmas cards except the hand made ones..........they're just too nice.
Amazing what can be salvaged from a card -the 'merry christmas' bit, general designs and pictures........and I try to use my leftovers where I can........just can cut a decent circleGot curvy scissors but I always go a bit askew somehow............
I've had problems with ribbon...........double sided tape seems to work on some and not others so I get the pva out and it normally does the trick.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

mary - I was wondering if anyone recycles or cuts up their cards for toppers or gift tags etc??
Also can anyone recommend any strong glue or sticky things I am trying to make a card with ribbon round it and used glue dots but where I have taken the ribbon round the card at the back and inside cover it is popping up - should I use some pva glue (carefully!) or just try another glue dot - I am worried about cutting the ribbon up to the edges of the card incase it frays - what would you lot recommend??
I once used PVA and it was awful!! I know some use DST but mine never sticks properly!! I have recently started using eyelets and just tying it which works. You could use a lighter to seal the ends (do it from a distance to start with so it doesn't turn the ribbon black!) it seals the ends of the ribbons nicely and they won't fray!
Meant to say yesterday as I completely forgot about drawing the winner of the alter a container challenge I did it yesterday!! ... Winner issss .......
Well donexx

Rusty at £4 per pack plus p&p I would be interested. I like DCWV stuff.0

ali why don't you cut a tiny slot in the fold of the card and take the ribbon right through and tie in a bow or knot at the front, then you wouldn't need to use any glue at all. Worth a try0

Thanks for all your help girls -unfortunately flourgirl I have cut the ribbon and stuck it on - however I will try that for next time (if their is one!!) ahem. I didnt know that about the lighter thanks Rusty - might give that a go (when hubby is out - he is a fireman and a bit 'cautious' - is that the word??? about things like that - but what he doesnt see!!! I will try v. sparingly with pva and see how that goes.0

Just finished packing the suitcase for the morning, we have to set off at 5am  so up at 4am :eek: Quite excited now just hope the floods have gone. I nearly passed out when I saw this0 -
For sticking ribbon I use the Ultra High Adhesion Tape, the stuff with the red carrier tape, very sticky, once it's stuck, it's stuck!!! Not had a problem with ribbon coming off (that I know of!).0

Ooops that was a typo!! it is £8.63 for 12x12 papers .... £3.91 for 6.5x4.5 .... and £6.52 for 8x8 but even so I know that most of them retail for double and a bit more!!! :eek:Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
