Hello everyone
JailhouseBabe and princesswoo suggested I pop onto this thread to introduce myself. I am new to crafting and card-making - I've been enjoying looking at some of your blogs and all I can say is "Oh My!! You are all so talented" :T:T:T
This is a copy of the post I made on the main thread - I look forward to "meeting" you all and hope you'll hold my hand as I dip my toe into the world of cardmaking.
Love Thriftyxxx
Copied Post:
Help me to become a crafter.
Hi everyone :hello:
I am looking for help to become a crafter-extraordinaire :rotfl:.
A little about me - promise to keep it brief. I have had a h*llish 6 months and the upshot has been:
Ds (17) diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and Mental Health problems (depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, phobias, panic attacks and OCD) - dropped out of school and now on DLA.
Dh currently classed as undiagnosed Asperger (explains so much) - hanging onto his current job by his fingernails
Dd carrying on as a normal 14 year old and managing very well, thank you very much
Me (44) given up work to become full-time carer to ds, now on Carer's Allowance. Suffering exhaustion and depression - on anti-depressants. Just starting to get better from 'flu (possibly piggy, oink)
What a cheery bunch we are :rotfl:
Nana (my Mum) refuses to accept that her grandson and SIL are autistic - is in complete denial. We haven't spoken in 10 weeks.
Uncle (my brother) is an alcoholic who backs my Mum, believes that there is nothing wrong with my son and that if he gets off his computer, he will grow out of it. We also haven't spoken in 10 weeks.
That is it for family support (or lack of it). Basically, I'm on my own - supporting dh to keep working, full-time carer to ds, housework, decoration, finances, all decision making falls to me. Work used to be my social contact and escape route but no longer - no wonder I'm a tad low
Onto crafting:
Things can't continue as they are. If I crumble, the family won't function. So I need something to inspire me, to lose myself in, in the day. If this brings me some new, online, virtual buddies - even better. I am so isolated and very lonely at the moment, a bit of a Billynomates.
I would love to try some crafting but... where to start. I like the idea of card-making, jewellery making or bead-work but am open to any suggestions. I learnt to knit years ago but can't see myself knitting a jumper - maybe some small crafty things.
Where does a complete novice start?
My house, also is desperate and I mean desperate - it's clean but the decor - OMG . That could also be a project for me - but it would have to be tackled in small stages, very, very small stages.
Do you know, just typing this has made me feel better than I have in absolutely ages. If anyone has any suggestions or websites for ideas please let me know. Ooooh, online suppliers - as :money:as possible would also be great.
Thanks for reading, Thriftyxxx0 -
hubby made this using one of the templates we bought from the NEC0
