Making Cards - Ideas for a card craft beginner (Part 3)

Hi everyone, I haven't been around in weeks. I've been quite ill, but have been making a couple of cards!
Just put another order in at a craft website. I'm so cross, I really wanted a corner rounder but missed it off my order. May I ask you all stop linking to awesome things, though? I keep spending my money!
If you were new to crafting - what kind of things would you put on your wishlist? I've been asked to put together one for my birthday! I've asked for the flower and embosser stamp someone posted earlier - the medium and large one, as well as a daisy border punch.
Any other suggestions of slightly bigger items? For example are there any awesome gift packs you wouldn't buy yourself? I don't really want a crop a dile, or die cut makers, but items like that!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
Hi Jazabelle - i would definitely be going with punches (martha stewart borders etc) - in fact they are on my list of things that anyone can feel free to buy me! I've got nesties and a cuttelbug, but find the punches quicker when doing more than a couple of anything. I feel a bit guilty about buying some of the paper packs so would have some lovely ones on my list. I think a heat gun and embossing powders are also nice to have around.0

Hope everyone has had a good weekend, and glad that Rusty is OK.
Great cards/post it holders on your blog Glittermum - love the fairy card, and the snellen frame it is gorgeous.
I've had a really crafty weekend, and have added some more cards to my blog, off to have a look to see if any of them fit any challenges.2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family. It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,0000 -

Thanks so much for the ideas! Is embossing something that can be done cheap? I mean are the tools to do it really expensive? How do you use the powders? Sorry for my total ignorance here!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
Embossing is great! You stamp an image with and then sprinkle the embossing powder on it then heat it up. The powder melts into a raised image. The heat guns are about £15.0

Just been looking at your cards Glittermum they are fab!!
I also clicked the link to Cute bears challenge blog and noticed that Padster has won the last challenge. I hope theyh hold on to her prize until she gets back from holiday!0 -
Glittermum - are those post-it holders for the school fayre? They look really expensive! I love how you've made the pens match as well x
CT19720 - Those heart cards are gorgeous, very elegant looking x
Jazabelle - I know you said no die-cutting machines, but I love my cuttlebug. I use it for embossing, cutting with nesties, and cutting sizzix alphabets - it's very flexible. I agree with glittermum on the Martha Stewart punches, they're very easy to use and give perfect results every time. The other thing I couldn't live without are Promarkers.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
Can I say "Hi", I don't think I've posted on this thread until now. Have been making cards for a few years now, but of late it seems that I have bought more craft stuff and little card making actually takes place. So, with the gift of some nesties for Christmas and some Forever Friends stamps in January, I have taken the plunge and am determined to actually get on and make some cards this year.
Why didn't anyone tell me that watercolour pencils were so good? Before you all start screaming about copics and promarkers, I quite like the lighter tones/shades that brush markers give, so promarkers/copics don't quite appeal to me as I find them a bit bold. I bought a large tin of w/c pencils from WH Smith a few months back but as usual only decided to have a play with them last night... and wished I'd done it sooner - I was in heaven! It has really fed my appetite to do more stamping and I have spent today playing around with stamped images and different colours/tones. I have a fair few stamps but always found it a bit messy using the brush markers so the w/c pencils are a dream in comparison. I love them!
Here's a card I have made this evening:0 -

Well, I have nothing against die cuts - it's just the templates for them seem so expensive? My friend showed me one and said they range from about £20 to £80 each or something? If this is the same thing.
Are cuttlebugs about £50?
I get bored quite easily, so I'd want quite a range, and it seems that would cost me a fortune!
Does that sound right, or have I mixed things up?
The martha stewart punches do look nice, I just googled them!
I think promarkers might be too expensive? I suppose you would need a set to start with, and that seems quite a lot. Someone was selling some doubles they had somewhere, and I was kicking myself for not seeing them until they had all gone!
If anyone has any spare promarkers I'd love to buy some to give them a try before going for a set! Here's a card I have made this evening:
Wow, that's lovely! Your colouring is awesome. I love the shading.
I haven't got the hang of colouring in any kind of stamp - I used colouring pencils, and it just looks childish when I do it! Of course I can't shade or anything like that, I have no artistic talent!
I wish there were stamps that came out fully coloured!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0
