Am I entitled to complain?
Lately I have noticed that their milk goes off before the use by date. Usually when it does I normally have to throw away only a little bit in the bottom of a one pint container. I have been buying my milk separately in M&S as theirs never seems to.
However last time I bought some from Tescos (as I coudlnt be bothered to queue up separately just for milk in another store) I bought a large 2 pint container on Saturday as I wanted to use this in cooking and hot milk drinks. The use by date on this is 9th August. This morning I got up and made myself a brew. Despite smelling ok when i poured it in the tea it was clear it had gone off. FIVE days before they said.
I want to take this back to them as I do not find it acceptable. Does anyone here think that they will get funny with me or am I entitled to complain about something I bought which was not up to standard?Do I have a leg to stand on in cases like this? What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Take it back reverbe, I've done it myself in the past when this has happened. Its usually meat I have complained about as the slightest pinprick hole in the packaging can send an item 'off' long before the sell by but I do recall taking back one of the big milk containers. They happily exchanged.0

With things like milk, cooked ham, etc don't you have to use it within a certain number of days of opening, regardless of the best before date?0

Thanks folks. Considering the long date and the fact that it had barely been used I was very annoyed. now I have to go out and take it back special AND go to M&S to buy more...
Makes you wonder how long they have it lying around before they packaged it...What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Two threads all because a pint of milk has gone off
Why do people feel the overwhelming need to post on a forum before just taking the pint of milk and going back to the shop with it and getting your money back.
I'd go the whole hog if I were you and write to Sir Terry for compensation for the amount of time taken to type about this and getting your money back, I thought you were boycotting M&S after your daily queuing for the 1p bazaar?0 -
Surely the usable life of milk will depend heavily on environmental conditions? The supermarket cannot control how the milk is stored after it is sold. I would not say that the 'Use By' date indicates how long the product should last, rather it is the date at which you should not use it, irrespective of how it has been stored and handled.0

If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
