  • In the Daily Telegraph this morning - a disabled man who had to carry his Tesco bag in his teeth because his 16-year-old daughter wasn't alowed to help him....

  • That is DISGUSTING, Bally.

I went to Tesco last night, bought pretty much the same basket of items as I was trying to the other day, and didn't get IDed or refused. Common sense prevails!!

My daughter worked for our local Asda for a couple of years whilst at Uni. She's well known to her past co workers. She is now 21. She tried to buy alcohol a couple of weeks ago and was refused because she did not have ID. Both the operative serving and the Duty Manager, who both knew her and both knew her age (attended her 21st party_ refused to serve her without ID. They cited Company policy??

I know its an inconvenience but I would prefer that to my teenage daugther choking on her own vomit in the gutter because she had drunk a bottle of vodka an older friend had brought her.

Good on Tesco for protecting minors before profit. Or protecting their drinks licence at least.

I have to say this has really put me off shopping in tesco, i am 32 but have always been asked for i.d which i really don't mind.
As an ex till monkey i know the fines etc you can get for not asking for i.d and i make sure i have my passport or something with me.
But I always go shopping with my baby because i don't have a choice and i sometimes have one or two of my nieces with me (both under 9) and the thought of being turned down for a bottle of wine because i look like i might give it to one of them is horrifying to me, what does that say about me for a start........
Going to give tesco a miss till this is sorted out and stick to the indy off licence down the road!!

The only thing that worries me a bit with this is we'll soon start to see groups of children stood by the entrance waiting for the adult to finish paying for their shopping.

Only if the adult's wish/need for alcohol is greater than their concern for their child(ren)'s safety, surely?

well went into tesco the other day and got chatting with the lady on the cig kiosk She had been pulled up by management for selling a bottle of 12 yr old malt to someone when they had a 5 yr old child with them:confused: Come on Tesco where is the common sense in this. Would we really want to give a 12 yr old malt to a 5 yr old child? Anyhoo as a result, our local tesco is retraining all their staff (again)
