Why do people continue to throw good money at the insurance warranty racket.
There must be hundreds of thousands of results on the 'net from the simplest of google searches which will tell all, surely enough to deter even the most gullible, yet despite overwhelming evidence still a never ending queue of mugs desperate to throw their hard earned away.0 -
Had a problem with my citroen ppicasso c4 57 plate, car broke down , had it towed to gararge, they inspected said sounded like a piston had gone, informed Auto protect, they had engine stripped, have had car at garage foe over 2 months, had injectors sent for analysis, no fault , ECU no problem, need new engine £3500, now they wont pay out saying due to carbon build up on piston, offered £1000 as good will gesture.. DO NOT PAY FOR A WARRANTY WITH THEM !!!! will be passing information to BBC Watchdog0

Autoprotect again!!! I wish I had read the comments on this page before having an extended warranty with them. I bought a nice VW passat and had autoprotect warranty on it for 3 months and just before the warranty elapsed I got a call to extend it, which I thought was a good idea against expensive repairs. Three months into the extension I got a rattling sound in the engine which was later discovered to be dual mass flywheel and kick starter issue, they asked me to get it repaired which would have cost me £700 at a local mechanic, I thought to ask them if they have their nominated repairers and they directed me to Halfords, after one week they sent out their engineer who reported back to auto protect as "wear and tear" they refused my claims leaving me to sort my bills with halfords who said if I was to repair it with them it will cost me £1450 and if I want to take my car away for repairs elsewhere I will have to pay £450 for cost of taking out the engine and putting it back. End of the day it cost me £1150! To get my car back on the road. Word of advice DONT INSURE WITH TEHM U WILL END UP PAYING MORE THAN YOU SHOULD HAVE PAID TO FIX YOUR CAR WITHOUT THEM.0

I might be wrong but if the dealership you bought the car from has a garage then you can put the repairs through them and the garage will claim the costs back directly.
I had paid £200 in october 2011 for a 3 year warranty with auto protect, within 3 months there was an issue with the auto gearbox so took the car back to the garage and they fixed the job (£500) and i didn't pay a penny.
I personally don't think any of the warranty companies are any different, they all seem to get bad reviews. Im considering buying my next car through the same garage just so i get the reduced rate warranty and hope to get the same service? I would never take the car to another garage as i know i would need to pay for it and then claim it back and i think maybe thats where some of the problems occur.0 -
You didnt pay a penny because you only had the car 3 months so it was the sellers job to repair it..
Not a warranty claim.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
unfortunately most used car dealers and warranty companies are only interested in your money, it really pays to know what you are doing before entering into the world of used cars.
I bought a used Ford Focus 52 reg in November 2012, Garage I bought it from lied quite a lot. a silver AutoProtect warranty for 3 months came with the car.
The FOS brake piston seized within one month, damaging the caliper and disc, only option was replacement. AutoProtect told me to take it to Halfords garage where the repairs came to just over £300.
Guess what Autoprotect said....
Wear and Tear :T
Their warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.
I know nothing about auto protect, only came across this when searching for a friend.
I'm sure there is documentation as to what is covered, guessing the level of your cover would not be robust as another level.
Given the fact the age of your car, do you really expect a company to pay for everything that goes wrong.
Pistons seize quite often, can be due to the brakes not bring stripped and serviced properly.
I think a lot if people expect way too much in a USED car, especially one that's over a decade old0 -

200 for 3 years cover, obviously at that price its bit going to be anything to shout about.
Course they are different, you really think a company charging 1000 for the sane period you paid 200 for would be on par?0 -
Don't touch Auto Protect with a bargepole! I bought a Z4 from a Honda main dealership (who subsequently went bust) with a twelve month warranty. both rear springs broke and had to be replaced. the work came to £240 in total, autoprotect offered me £40. this does not even cover the cost of one spring. when I queried this they quoted 'terms and conditions', when I requested their terms and conditions they wanted £25 for them. It's a pity you can't insure against charlatans like this.
A spring covered, surprised any company would offer a penny, they break in general.
Charlatans they may be but Reality check required I would say.
What never your brake pad indicator came on so you want to claim!
Terms and conditions from any company, a spring is NOT a mechanical item, so why would any mechanical failure policy pay you?0 -
Just looked at a ford direct warranty for comparison.
Now they say.....
What’s covered
Most original components and mechanical failure are covered.
But still exclude ... Standard service parts –air cleaners, oil filters and gaskets, spark plugs, fluids and oils.
Normal wear and tear parts –ancillary drive belts, batteries, brake friction material (including discs), bulbs, clutch facings, exhaust pipes and silencers (although catalytic converters are covered), fuses, lamps, shock absorbers and MacPherson struts, tyres, wiper blades, checks and adjustments.
Trim and bodywork –interior trims, glass (heating elements are covered), seat covers and pads, bumpers, mouldings, paint, sheet metal, water ingress, weatherstrip and body seals, aerials and wheels.
So they are omitting shockers and struts, is that not fair game?0 -
In my short search regarding used car warranties, one thing in favour of ANY company is the consumer expects too much quite often.
Just found this

The chap asking the question is on another planet, however a sane person answers!0
