Autoprotect warranty

re autoprotect - mine was a claim over a few hundred so let it go, as I went to trading standards, and not FSA regulated. They act and sound like crooks, they basically said claim had to be authorised beforehand, but would not believe the mechanics diagnosis over the phone, this was a proper regulated mechanics, with no reason to lie a, AP did not send an adjuster to view the car in time, to view the issue, I needed the car and asked for the work to be done, I informed autoprotect I was doing that as I needed car for work, and they immediately said, cannot claim tough, think it was deliberate time you out policy by them, they know people need their cars asap. I got feeling they knew doing this was a way to slip out, Trading Standards contacted me and said they were having a 'meeting' with them due to multiple complaints, TS are probably toothless, i heard no more about it.0

I've just bought a Transporter T5 with a golod autoprotect warranty and was originally happy with added peace of mind.
That was until I've just read all the horror stories about the product!
Fingers crossed the van is mechanically sound and doesn't lead to any issues!0 -
After reading so many bad reviews on here I am seriously surprised auto protect have just paid out for me. Bought the car in feb 2012 (2007 BMW 318d m sport for £8750 and paid £300 for 1 year gold warranty) just had the clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced at a cost of £901 which I went to a garage of my choice. The ECU now needs replacing so lets hope there ready to fork out another £1000 cos I'm not willing to after only owning the car for about 5 months !!0

In reality, the supplying dealer should have rectified the faults as you have had the car less than six months. The same goes for the ECU!
However, you have saved them the trouble by forking out £300 for a warranty which is covering what the garage should have covered by law. That's why most garages sell these warranties."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Although I understand what your saying. By law a garage does not have to give a warranty on any used vehicle they sell. I have spoke to a number of people about this, but saying that if the warranty don't pay for my new ECU I will be going back to garage and demanding them to sort it ! I don't mind paying £300 for a warranty which will save me £2000. 1000 for clutch an 1000 for ECU. The garage I bought the car from is about 2 hours from my home so I wouldn't be travelling that in a broken car to get it fixed as I've had that trouble in the past from a previous garage who gave me a standard 3 month warranty which definantly wasn't worth the paper it was written on, they gave me a courtesy car which I had to pay to insure myself. Micky mouse garage (car store Warrington) AVOID them at all costs had many problems with them0

We have used Go Car Warranty before and never had a problem in fact they have been really good. On Saturday we had a serious mechanical failure which meant the car suddenly stopped. We called the AA to rescue us. They said it was the clutch and felt this would be covered under a warranty. I checked our details and this was covered. I called Go Car Warranty on Monday and they said it was okay to use a local garage but they would need to approve the works. I managed to find a garage who would recover the car for free. They stripped down the gear box and stated this was a serious mechanical fault. They called Go Car Warranty (auto protect) and they were told that an assessor would need to come out. The assessor didn't come out till yesterday and said to the garage that the parts including the damage were around 40 to 50% worn and therefore by implication this was a serious mechanical failure. The garage got a call today to say that the claim had been turned down due to wear and tear. This is contrary to what the inspector verbally told the garage. I have checked the terms of the policy and they should just on this pay out the policy. I have also supplied them with evidence of a full service history including a service in July. I called them to query this and I am now waiting for the claim to be looked at again. I explained I would register this as a complaint which I have now done and I will fight it with the ombudsman. The point is if I took the car to a garage and they said the clutch was failing then this isn't covered but if your car suddenly without any warning breaks down then that is serious mechanical failure. We took out the policy for this reason and now we have had to use money set aside for Christmas to pay the garage whilst we argue with them. It is a shame because in the past they have been really good. We will fight it all the way but people should be aware.0

unfortunately most used car dealers and warranty companies are only interested in your money, it really pays to know what you are doing before entering into the world of used cars.
I bought a used Ford Focus 52 reg in November 2012, Garage I bought it from lied quite a lot. a silver AutoProtect warranty for 3 months came with the car.
The FOS brake piston seized within one month, damaging the caliper and disc, only option was replacement. AutoProtect told me to take it to Halfords garage where the repairs came to just over £300.
Guess what Autoprotect said....
Wear and Tear :T
Their warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.0 -
Don't touch Auto Protect with a bargepole! I bought a Z4 from a Honda main dealership (who subsequently went bust) with a twelve month warranty. both rear springs broke and had to be replaced. the work came to £240 in total, autoprotect offered me £40. this does not even cover the cost of one spring. when I queried this they quoted 'terms and conditions', when I requested their terms and conditions they wanted £25 for them. It's a pity you can't insure against charlatans like this.0

What a bunch of money grabbing good for nothing time waster's Auto protect are, I decided to go for their "gold option" interest free £550 as it sounded so good, one of my front struts started to leak so I arranged to have a pair fitted and offered to pay for half as it was only one that was no good but you should fit them in pairs..... No sorry we wont refund you your money as you didn't ask our permission. Rang these clowns again to ask permission to have a wheel bearing replaced, my garage went through all the right channels and guess what........ wear and tear I have only owned the car 3 months, needles to say I've cancelled my monthly instalment..IF YOU ARE OFFERED THIS WARRANTY RUN A MILE IT'S NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT'S PRINTED ON.0

In my experience AutoProtect administer lots of very big schemes for many insurers in the UK. Having spoken to representatives of many insurers, I can tell you they are well regarded by many, mainly because their claims ratios are really low (perhaps because they do not like to pay out). On insured schemes that could present 'grey areas' like MBI, I have heard many tales of stalling by requiring inspections of parts, and I have even heard they have lost parts when they have requested to inspect them.
Warranty is a difficult area for many to understand, and some mitigation may be that the sales people in motor dealers paint this rosy picture over MBI and what it can cover.
However, in my opinion there are much better options than Auto Protect!0
