Thanks for the replies. I'll have a look in Lakeland and see how much they are there. I hate wasting food and anything to help me use up more fresh food!

Chickadee, do check out the Lakeland shop, a) because we bought some in our local shop for a friend a couple of months ago, but b) because according to this, they're no longer available, which would be a shame, as they're much better value than QVC.

Not wanting to stir things up here... ...but I went up to stay with my parents this weekend and Mum was singing the praises of the QVC bags - she bought them and has been very pleased with them. :D She was particularly impressed with the way broccoli kept in them for over a week without losing its colour ("you know the way broccoli goes a bit yellow-y when it gets old...").

Personally, we use the ones from Lakeland and think they are fab - particularly for lettuce (never used to get through a whole iceberg before it went manky :o - now its no longer a problem). I would definitely recommend the Lakeland ones. :T

By the way, although they are quite expensive, they can be re-used more than once. ;) Just rinse them out and turn them inside out to dry, then make sure that they are properly dry before putting new stuff in them. Also, I don't use a different one for each veg, e.g. cucumber, lettuce and celery all live happily in the same one in my fridge and none of them seem any worse the wear for being in a "bag-share" situation. :p

  • I bought the ones from Lakeland and found them to be fab (even recommended them on here), but then I too saw them on QVC and sent for them only to find that they were totally rubbish - the stuff went mouldy just as quick. I sent them back for a refund and will get some more when I go to Lakeland. I don't know what was wrong with my QVC ones because my friend got some and hers worked fine!!

thanks for this info - I noticed them advertised on QVC but thought them a bit expensive. I think I will try to get my Mum to get me some next time she is in Lakeland.

I second that re the lakeland bags. I have had a riverford cabbage in one for a week now and it is still crispy and green. Just be selective about using them eg leeks can be prepared, washed and dried and then stored in a normal bag in the freezer

I find the bags especially good for greens. I don`t use them every week but only when I struggle with the amount of riverford veg in the organic box

They were also wonderful over the longer christmas break

I use the ones from Lakeland too.But as ChocClare says they are not available at the moment.I was told that there was a problem with the quality/performance of the bags so they had been withdrawn. The shop assistant seemed to think they would be back when the problem was rectified.I hope so,they were very useful.

yes, let's hope Lakeland get their problem with them sorted out soon (or nobble QVC ;))
I've been using them for years & they were a godsend when I lived in the middle of nowhere & sometimes only got to the shops once or twice a month

now I'm in the city I find them particularly useful for keeping a fresh selection of salad stuff to avoid buying those over-priced (& extremely suspect) bagged salads

I was looking at those Green Stay Fresh Bags on QVC yesterday, that are supposed to prolong the life of your veg/fruit - anyone used these? are they any good? they seemed to be.
