Is this really the right place to be discussing this?
This board is in the PURE MONEY section, I do wish people would read the stickies before posting, especially the 'what's it all about' one as this should obviously be elsewhere.

Well, Justin, we are also "support group" and unfortunatly we do have chats with each other that extend beyond figures-talk. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I really like second hand things. After all, thats what the majority of things on ebay are.
My house is full of seconds or hand me downs either from charity shops or friends and I'm pleased to say that most people wouldnt know the difference.
Tell him to stop being silly. Give it a good scrub and try it.0 -
I don't think there is anything wrong with second hand stuff or hand me downs. I couldn't have done without it when I moved into my flat!!
I've just applied to join freecycle in my area, waiting to see if I've been accepted! I think it's a great idea. One persons trash is another persons treasure so they say!!Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

I agree with everyone here ! second hand is great!:j I'm not too proud to accept other peoples cast offs, I use carboots and bought my breadmaker off Ebay.Half my furniture came from my family! I like the idea of recycling things and its great realising how much money you're saving when you see the price of things new in the shops.:money:Do what you love :happyhear0

i love, love, love second hand...or preferably freecycled things!! my husband is luckily the same and we love telling everyone in our families what we have got for free or next to nothing.
the only clothes i buy new are nightwear, underwear and shoes.
i think furniture type wise the only thing i would absolutely have to buy new is a matress.
i bought new pushchairs, cot and car seats for my daughters but as someone else said thats purely a safety aspect rather than anything else.
my 3 piece suite is a freebie from one of hubbies workmates,my extendable mahogany dining table and 6 matching chairs are from the charity shop.....i could go on and on but i'll spare you all :rotfl:0 -
My OH would object too but it stems from his childhood. He visibly cringes when he mentions the shame of having someone elses name in your underpants and, as a reult, he has a very large complex about second hand stuff. He's ok with the kids having clothes and toys from people we know but not from strangers and he doesn't like me buying them stuff off ebay.
Personally, I buy secondhand anyway (especially toys and clothes for the kids) - just nothing for him!
Clean it up and tell him he doesn't have to eat it - I reckon he'll cave after the first couple of loaves!0 -
I LOVE second-hand stuff. As a kid, every time I came back from a jumble sale my Dad would say "someone could have died in that". His favourite jumper is one I got for him at Oxfam (barely worn) - but I didn't tell him it was secondhand :rotfl: - Mum knows though, and chuckles every time he wears it - it was her who used to take me to the jumble sales!!0

Second hand goods are great, why throw something out when someone else could use it.
At the Barnardos near where we live, they have a huge selection of second hand wedding dresses (ideal for those wishing to get married on a budget) Most of these dresses have been worn once and are from big designers like Pronuptua.
We browse the charity shops for books and recently took a huge bag full of clothes and books to a local charity shop0
