I was like your husband when I was young, I would stand 2 shops down when my mam ventured into a charity shop  I mean...what if someone I knew saw me there!
Then I left home and had to pay for my own things and I became a second hand junky!
I am hard pressed to see what I have that was new these days!
Just to give you an idea!
Lounge
- 3 pce suite, 2nd hand,was 55 pound + delivery, I haggled down to 25 pound free delivery
-Queen Ann Chest of drawers - free in someones porch needed new handles and a good varnishing, now looks sort of posh!
-Queen Anne coffee table - found in backlane, and matched my chest of drawers!
-Tv Unit - a fiver from charity shop
Study
-carpet - free from a neighbour
-sette and armchair - free from a neighbour
-tall lamp - free from same neighbour (I did ask for her curtains too lol)
- curtains - 4 pound second hand
-shelves - 2nd hand
If it's going free I'll have it! If it's in a backlane I just wait till it's dark and take it. if it's in a second hand shop then as long as it isn't overpriced (as some thigns are!) then i'll buy it.
I've turned a 2nd hand bed set into curtains and bags and runners.

Second hand is good ! and absolutely nothing to be ashamed about.

If more people recycled their goods the world would be a cleaner place.
I do interiors and my clients drive me mad  with all their 'I must have this and that' ... gotta be the latest model etc.
I frequent bootfairs and second hand shops...I like vintage with a hint of modern. Second hand is gooooood :TOfficial DFW Nerd - Member no. 045

Well I think they are going down, only time, a divorce, selling up & moving on will tell !!

I love second-hand items too, most of my clothes are from Charity shops, theres no way I'd pay the full prices for Monsoon, Next or Gap items, a lot of people give away really good stuff and we can benefit along with the charity.
Freecycle is great, I've picked up some good items (including, yes you've guessed it, a breadmaker) All the people I've met through it are fabulous too, my kind of people.
The last car-boot I went to was not brilliant though.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Freecycle is a network started in USA and rapidly expanding intenationally. It consists of people who want to avoid putting unwanted items in landfill, it's a Yahoo based group divided into counties.
The offers are posted on a message board and you can also claim items you are interested in, it's a two-way system, you offer first and then you can try and claim something. You can also post 'wanted' adverts if you are after something specific. It's based on a mututal respect and trust for the group, virtually anything is allowed to be offered to fellow freecyclers!
I don't know the web address, if you search for Freecycle on a search engine you should find it.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing wrong with charity shops and 2nd hand !!
Also Charity shop bought doesn't mean used - I went to our local scope shop a couple of weeks back and got 2 brand new with tags FCUK tops for the grand total of £3.20 !!! :T
I love car boots as well - quite a few times I have only spent £5 and re-sold on ebay for £10+.
Freecycle is excellent too - we got a georgous pine king size bed - we had to get a new matress - but that bed has to be the best bargin ever - cost us about £1 in petrol !!
DH is ok with 2nd hand but when I told him about the bed he thought it was a bit strange - not because it was 2nd hand but because he couldn't believe I could get a king size bed for free - he believes it now - he is upstairs fast asleep in it !!!
There are somethings I have to buy new such as underwear, socks, shoes, matresses PJ's, etc.
