I'm sure the lovely people on the Old Style Board could give you a few tips about effective (and cheap) cleaning products/methods. You want to be sure its clean, especially if its been in the guy's garage or attic!

Enjoy your lovely warm bread :D

Im off to collect some bright pink curtains ( brand new ) through freecycle on Friday. That will finish off my Daughters room perfectly - except for the carpet but thats another story. Im getting a bit freecycle mad recently and now have to tell myself ' do you really need it ' and ' give somebody else a chance ' :rotfl:

When my children have something that is secondhand I say nothing. If they ask I say "Its new to you."

I'd rather have second hand quality items then first hand crap based on what I can afford...

    Second hand cars
    Second hand books
Second hand clothes (not undies or shoes)
    Second hand garden stuff
    Second hand curtains
I could go on, but I'm talking to the converted. Keep the bread maker, and just don't buy any shop bread......

    :)

I made a comment on MSE the other day about hand me downs etc when I was young.........although alot of the clothes were quite frankly embarrassing...there were plenty of other clothes and stuff which I made perfectly good use.........for many years........until there was no longer any hope of them fitting...........then I still kept them incase I ever did fit back into them........or they came back into fashion!! :o

As for useful items.......I don't think there is that much that I've actually bought new really........the 3 piece suite I bought last July is I think the first one I've actually bought (at 32 thats not bad going).....the rest have been off family getting rid of the old to make room for the new.........and we have gladly accepted...

Haven't bought any crockery and cutlery for....must be about 10 years at least...

Dining room table and chairs were bought from a second hand shop.......although I still felt the need to accept my brothers offer of a dining table and chairs that he was getting rid of because he didn't have room in his new house....now I have no room in mine because I have two!

Rugs ..........there's another thing.......if someone's getting rid.........I'll find a use for it somewhere........

I'll have to stop being so eager to take other peoples stuff.......I have no room

  • Has anyone else had any hand me downs/second hand goods lately that have made a big difference to you? As I am sure this breadmaker will to me, and hopefully DH.
Most of my goods and chattels have been handed on to me by relatives, many in superb condition. I hope to pass them on to my children.

I have recently had a bed off ebay, in ikea with the mattresss it would have been over £400, barely used, spotless and mine for £60. Its made a difference as i didnt have to lay out for one for the spare room, saving £340

I was angling on freecycle for a bandnew in box Kenwood chef- I would have loved that, maybe next time...!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I am going to give it a good clean and have a go at this breadmaking thing. And if DH doesn't want any, it's tough. I bet he will though ;) when the lovely smell wafts past.
