I agree - a knife is all you need. I think it is the way you chop the onion - my eyes haven't watered since I started chopping my onions "Gordon Ramsay" -style

I cheat and by frozen chopped onions from Asda.

Only me to cook for now and I was wasting so many onions, now I just take out the amount I need.

    HTH

I do too - they cost about the same as a bag of smartprice fresh onions and last for ages!

An update on my Nicer Dicer that I bought:

HOWEVER: it does work. I wouldn't dice half a large onion with it but then I don't think I would with a geniune one. As long as the pieces are a reasonable size then it cuts well. Used it for spuds, courgettes and onions last night.
So for what I paid (free delivery) it does the job and no more streaming eyes. I will leave feedback to the effect that I think this is a fake as they are misleading people. But it works and I am happy with that.

I have a nicer dicer that I bought years ago from lakeland and I use it every day its brilliant.
the instructions that came with it says to chop an onion into at least quarters and place cut side up ;)
I use mine for all sorts of veg and its brilliant for chopping veg for a salsa :D

Oh that makes me feel old ! I have one, it was my Mum's though x
It is a pain to wash up so I use DH and a knife. No tears for me.
