What gadgets do you have for chopping onions?

I have a Pampered Chef chopper.

It was about £27 and a big waste of money. There's so much faffing around to clean and dry it, and it doesn't chop them properly.0 -
These are what I'm going to buy to save on buying any more 'gadgets'! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eddingtons-5381-Onion-Goggles-Pink/dp/B000NQ63V6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1249293884&sr=8-2
Plus sucking a teaspoon is supposed to take the sting away

Hi There
What about wearing swim goggles when you peel onions - the eye streaming is caused by the gases given off by the onions. An old pair - even borrowed of goggles will save you a fortune in kit and save the electric.
As long as your eyes are protected - you will be able to chop onions without any problems.

I picked up an onion chopper from a dept store in Paris in the sales about 5 years back very similar to this
doddle to use, want more finely chopped, push the handle a few more times,. no stink, no mess, no tears.
I have one of these. They sell them in Ikea, I think I paid about £6.50/£6.99 for mine but its really good :j0 -
Yeah we've got one of those chopper things, but it takes too much energy and leave large chucks which slips up the side. And it's just another item to wash up!0

I tried wearing a pair of specs in the hope that it would protect my eyes somewhat. Not sure I am OS enough to wear our swimming goggles. They are tinted so would prefer to see clearly.
Have ordered my Nicer Dicer so looking forward to using it.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

This probably doesn't help you much, but in case it helps others- the main thing I have found great for chopping onions is wearing contact lenses!
I never have streaming eyes anymore as I guess the lens forms a barrier but if I am just wearing my glasses I do (and am always quite surprised by this!) I guess the spray gets round the side of the glasses so I think the earlier suggestion of swim goggles is actually a good one (as long as no one watching!)0 -

Wow what a blast from the past. My Granny had a browny/orange one of those on the early 70's. I used to love playing with it as a kid. I think she got it from Tupperware?
