I just use a knife and some old cheap swimming goggles that have clear lenses rather than tinted. I must look a bit silly doing it but it's better than looking like I've been crying about something very upsetting afterwards and during dinner!

I picked up an onion chopper from a dept store in Paris in the sales about 5 years back very similar to this
doddle to use, want more finely chopped, push the handle a few more times,. no stink, no mess, no tears.

That's very similar to my £27 one from Pampered Chef! Hate it though. Seen quite a few for sale on ebay so I think a lot of other people feel the same.

Nicer-Dicer on ebay for £8.50 with free posting. Much cheaper than the £24 you mentioned Ollie!!!
Off to go and purchase one!

These are rubbish. I bought one for £7 and binned it after 1st use. The blade would not pass through the onion and I felt it would snap if I put anymore pressure on it. Avoid!

Maybe I was just unlucky and had a faulty one.

That is similar to the one from 'Pampered Chef' which are about £20 or more!! I wanted one but thought they were dear.
Funnily enough I picked a brand new boxed one up in a charity shop! its great. (not pampered chef)
  • Hi
I hate chopping onions too, so what i do now is to chop a batch in the food processor (maybe 3 or 4 onions at a time) then spilt into plastic containers (I use the ones you get from a chinese takeaway) then pop them in the freezer and get out as needed to cook.
I agree, it is a grotty job but this way doesnt seem so bad

  • Swampy - my mixer is a 70's Kenwood that's still going strong. If you can afford one I'd go for Kenwood every time as they just seem to last forever.
From what I saw of the Nicer-Dicer is looked easy to use - gosh I am so easily swayed by those ads. I even think the 6 second ab will give a the body of a supermodel ;)

You wouldn't happen to frequent a certain wedding website would you? I am Jenbo over there ;)

you found me! yup - there is only one me lol xx think a kenwood mixer is on my wish list for my birthday [40 in september :T so deserve something decent]

Well I don't think you can go wrong with Kenwood. Mine is either late 70's or early 80's and still going. And there's nothing like splashing out on a new mixer for a special birthday LOL!!!
Just seen your other thread. Am very sorry xx

Bongedone - too late I've already ordered one! I do only buy Mr S Basics Onions and they are quite small so hopefully not too tough on the blades. We'll see anyway.......

let me know how you get on with it - and then i might get one! I await your report either here or the purple place.

today i have been cooking to take my mind off stuff..... minced beef pie for tea - 6 minced beef pasties to go in the freezer - 2 loaves. Just considering making some mash and making a cottage pie too - or maybe i will just freeze the bottom as it is easy enuf to do the top.

Checking the seller's feedback, there are customers with the opinion that they're fakes. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
