Talking of good books, whilst I've been ill, the book I plucked off the bookshelf to re-read was one I've not read for a few years and is called "Victorian London - the Life of a City 1840-1870" by Liza Picard. It's a fact rather than fictional book but is really easy to read and gives a great insight into the way our forbears lived in the metropolis in Victorian times from the lowest of the low to the highest of the high.
If anyone sees it in their library, I'd recommend it, even if you don't like history.
And the toxic wastefulness of that generation really is far worse then my putting my laptop in the binAt least I don't have arsenic in the house to remove my facial hair or dump my night soil in open drains so it pollutes the Thames

soappie, I love books from that era, I have written it down & will look out for it. TY. I did history a-level Britain from 1815-1914 & I still love to read about those times gone by.

Have you read any Raffaella Barker? She writes beautifully about your part of Norfolk. Try Hens Dancing, Green Grass, Poppyland - but they're all good!
Not heard of her. Thanks for that - I'll go and look her up on the library site now.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Yes... but hopefully we've learnt since then (incidentally, the site I work on is contaminated with arsenic... extremely difficult to deal with ). Just because something was acceptable in the past doesn't mean we should continue to do it... and you and pigpen have children to consider, so should be MORE concerned than me, not less!!!
It's not just about the toxic waste, it's about limited resources. The stuff you're chucking out could be reused, re-engineered or in the worst cases, the materials could be reprocessed and recovered.0 -
I managed to put some washing in the dryer and burnt some stew beyond repair..
Come back to bed as can't stand up or really walk.......eeeee this is hard to deal with.
Luckily my lovely family are rallying round, both DDs cleaned up downstairs and eldest just made me tea...curry and rice...bless them.
Wierdly everything feels sticky in the house, all wood, the banister, the table, the door, must be really humid.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

My last word on the subject. When a smoke detector died a couple of months ago, I checked and checked the disposal instructions. It said that in household situations, it was perfectly OK environmentally to dispose of one dead smoke detector in one household rubbish bin full of other rubbish. I have applied the same principle to the laptop.
If I could have put it in my recycling bin, I would have but
(a) it's not permitted and
(b) the bin is too full of gin bottles waiting to be collectedI am the leading lady in the movie of my life
