My last word on the subject. When a smoke detector died a couple of months ago, I checked and checked the disposal instructions. It said that in household situations, it was perfectly OK environmentally to dispose of one dead smoke detector in one household rubbish bin full of other rubbish. I have applied the same principle to the laptop.

If I could have put it in my recycling bin, I would have but

    (a) it's not permitted and
    (b) the bin is too full of gin bottles waiting to be collected

    :p

It's allowed... household waste is currently exempt from WEEE legislation, but it doesn't mean that it's safe or right. It just means that the government/local authorities can't work out a decent waste strategy.

We can't put glass in our recycling bins... it has to go to the recycling centre in the village or the tip. And I have to go to the next county to get rid of tetrapaks (OK, so it's closer than my 'local' tip in my own county, and I pass it more often, but the inconsitency annoys me...).

Triker - I hope things go well tomorrow. I'm glad to hear you're being well looked after.

I'm off to bed. Someone remind me that I have to drop my car at the garage tomorrow... and do some work... and prepare for the interview!

Just spoken to DD and her bloke's fever broke last night and he's now at the moaning about everything stage so that's good news. Apparently he says that what he's had can't possibly be the same as what we've all had. I guess there are now, officially, two versions of swine flu - the ordinary version and the man-swine flu version :D

Ex-OH had to wait in a queue 2 hours to sign on today apparently there was a queue out the jobcentre door!!! When he finally got to the desk he was told they were short staffed! The irony!
I've seen on the news loads of queues outside of job centers stretching round the block, it's so sad seeing all those people out of work

I've hung out the washing and thrown out a manky cool bag that DH had left lying around the place. It's our old one, he said he wanted to keep it but had allowed fruit to go rotten in it (I think it was still in there when I binned it) and I got fed up with having it in the LR. I've also pretended to throw away his huge box with power tool chargers in that's been in the flat for weeks on end. It's actually hidden somewhere. He had due warning this would happen but refused to do anything with them. I can't cope with having them in here, the place is too small as it is.

Getting a bit tired and tetchy so going to bed. Day 2 of my new system of doing things is working well - I've got a page per day diary and next to each time I've written what jobs I need to get done (eg. 10am washing up, laundry, bins) and it's working well. I find otherwise I drift through the day and can't think of what I should be doing, or if I think of it I think I will do it later, which of course, I don't! HOpefully I will get more done now!

Hugs Natty, hope you and lodger cat feel better soon

Ginger, I would opt for anything you have that covers you up – a short skirt would not be the thing! A long skirt and long sleeves too if you can bear it. Good for you for thinking about what you wear, it makes a huge difference. Hope the meeting goes well for you. My friend told me about when she and another lady had to go and see a Muslim woman and they were wearing modest summer dresses but decided to go home and change first into something even more modest. She actually commented on what they were wearing and said how lovely it was that they were so modestly dressed – it made a big difference to how she interacted with them. ETA: Just seen Soappie has also advised this too!

Thanks Thifty, I’ve been really suspicious of this too. Am still waiting to find out it’s a con or a scam of some kind. He wants to know who we are and about us as people – he wants to know what kind of people we are if we are going to be potentially living in his home. I’ve not given out anything like bank account details! He said he wanted proof that we can pay the rent as he’s had trouble with people before, so I’ve offered to send him references – there is no way I would give him bank statements or anything like that. It does seem too good to be true, and although I’m excited about the prospect of living there I’m totally prepared for this to be a hoax of some kind. Thanks for your concern sweetie

Greenbee I like Raffaella Barker too! I have to confess to throwing out DH's old computer moniter once but it was a couple of years ago and I couldn't get to the dump.

Frodders have a great time at Hairspray!! I saw the filam but DH fell asleep – he’s not a fan of those type of things! I would love to see the show tho, is John Travolta still in it, or is someone else now

Triker, huge hugs for you. I remember Mum railing against her illness for years, she couldn’t get her head around the fact that she was ill and rebelled against it at every opportunity, only to then have days in bed afterwards. I know this is a huge change for you and something that’s really tough to get used to. I remember spending hours in the 1990’s in doctors waiting rooms and going all over the country to various alternative health people/nutritionists etc who were going to “cure” mum, only for her to be crushed with disappointment when it didn’t work. Those years were tough for her and she is much happier now she’s come to terms with it and has learned how to pace herself so she does a little when she has energy and the energy lasts for longer instead of rushing about like a mad woman when she felt a bit energetic and then being really ill for ages after.

    Sorry for writing an essay
