I think there's a lot of people would disagree with you about speeding not contributing to death on the roads.
Unfortunately many can't argue with you, they've been killed by speeding drivers, well to be more accurate they've been killed by speeding vehicles, but what made the vehicles go so fast ?
Thats my point, to much emphasis is made on speed, the bottom line is bad driving causes more accidents than speedingANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -

Or even doing 29 MPH down a residential street with cars parked on either side, say during school holidays.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
I passed one of these white vans recently. It was parked over a motorway bridge with something like 'Motorway monitoring vehicle' writ large all over it.
The driver was in the back of the van fast asleep!0 -

It may well have been parked in what was a safer position, whoever they were they would'nt have wanted to park and restrict the traffic on the road above the motorway.
If, and I say *if* the van was doing speed checks, the guidelines say that they should be clearly visible to the targetted traffic. Whatever the reasons were for the van being behind the trees, they were not complying with the guidelines and therefore should either have parked where they were visible or used a different site. As this bridge is an officially documented location for the scameras for South Wales, I can only assume that there must be plenty of room for them to have been on the bridge in a visible position. The road on the bridge is a small back water country lane, another reason, I'm sure there would be plenty of room.
However, my guess is now that it was ANPR and not speed, and my guess is that they don't need to be visible for those duties. I guess they were hidden so as to avoid cars breaking suddenly, which is obviously going to cause a hazard on the motorway,.0 -

There are identical cameras near Elland Road. I am inclined to trust the sign that they are in fact traffic cameras. The limit there is 50 and most idiots do 80 so they definitely aren't speed cameras anywayHere in West Yorkshire, I live near a bridge over the M62 and there are permanent cameras bolted on the parapet of the bridge pointing down into each lane.
Regarding original post. AFAIK there's no law stating a requirement that the vans are visible or that they have any type of markings. They simply need to be able to provide evidence that an offence occurred, so it is only likely they will use more surreptitious means of gathering such evidence. Take for example this story http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/7322582.stm0 -
Any time i've seen a road tax checker it's always been a Vectra or some such with one of those strips in the back window lit up advertising the fact its for tax and some bloke having a nap in the car with the tripod hitched at the back.
Still see people slamming on the brakes for them though.0 -
Only one bloke asleep, I normally see two0
