Hello

I was just reading how this site (Martins Team) are going to help support the fight regarding the credit link to 'flatmates!'

I mean hello, is not this what CitySlicker has been trying to fight? That individuals are not linked by other peoples credit rating if you are residing in the same property??????

I was absolutely gob smacked :mad:when I read their article, how disappointed I was in Martin and his site, that they are willing to help only people who are not bankrupts, he is basically discriminating against us who have filed bankruptcy as we only want nothing more than to have our life back after a reasonable period of time (6 years) which would allow us to start over with a clean slate.....

So when 'ordinary' peoples credit rating starts looking similar to that of a bankrupt, suddenly you are interested in helping.

It sickens me to see all the hard work that CitySlicker has done to address such an issue go unnoticed and ignored by Martin and his team!

NewStart09 thanks for the words there. I don't really know what to think about Martin's position - I have raised this issue with him and he has said he has a lot of campaigns so not really in a position to take this on. He did get one of his team to forward some email addresses for CAB (they never replied) and Christians Against Poverty (they did not want to get involved).

It is frustrating, but I am trying to be pragmatic about this - Martin doesn't have to answer to me at all and that's up to him. I am ever hopeful he will take this case up, even if it is just a letter from him to the ABI to ask them to justify why they allow their members to take this position. Surely this is bad for business in the long term as the really vulnerable groups will just not take out prohibitively expensive insurance. Then think back to the riots last year, or the flooding a couple of years before that, and the extensive help local councils plus national government had to give homes which didn't have insurance cover.

The problem with this issue as a whole is generally no-one seemed to be aware of the issue. The question would be hidden away on telephone quotes. It was only really when comparison sites became so big that suddenly we saw hang on a minute - if I didn't live with a bankrupt I could get my price at xx from 60 different insurers, but because I do it costs xx and there are only 10 different insurers available.

I have a huge amount of respect for Martin and his drive for fairness, if Martin does read through this I am not having a pop. I just need your help, I am not a person of profile. I will do the donkey work - I will draft letters, send emails - I am good at that side as everyone here has seen from the reports I have sent up to the ABI. I just need a named person of profile to help.

If anyone else has ideas how to get Martin's involvement this is appreciated. (Edit - this thread has been going for over two and a half years now, that's two and a half years of my work achieving so little yet people are interested as the thread has thousands of views and hundreds of posts. Are you out there Martin? :) )

I never received a reply to my email from last month reminding the ABI I am still on the case, so I have emailed again tonight.

  • They finally responded to my latest update request:

I’m afraid that this matter remains ongoing. My understanding from talking to Carl was that we would revert to you when we had completed our work.

The ABI has been going through a restructure. As a result, financial inclusion work now falls to our new consumer team, which is being recruited. I will talk to the Assistant Director responsible with a view to progressing it.

(this is from the Acting Assistant Director, Head of Fraud and Specialist Lines General Insurance Directorate).

I knew I would be in for the long haul with this, but crikey the wheels of motion sure do turn slowly at times.

  • Haven't had chance to read through all the posts, but has any one started a online petition? you need 100,000 people to sign it to make the MP's discuss the issue in parliment. Given the increase of people who are BR they would be daft to ignore this issue.

Yes this was considered recently. The problem is a poor response to an online petition can do more damage than good, and this isn't a popular cause either so we're not likely to get the number of signatories required.

To put this to the test, I asked if just 10 people said 'thanks' on one post within 24 hours. Bearing in mind this thread has had thousands of views, that should have been easily achievable if people were keen enough. I only raised five 'thanks' - and if I can't encourage people on a forum where they only have to press one button, I definitely won't get far on a site where a person's details need entering then verifying.
