Hi all,
sent mine out 6mths back and did get a reply which will apparently have less details shown of bankrupts searched through google search engine, however for the tarnished title we all seem to be knighted with to the grave i think we will all need to kick up one hell of a stink with this and think it will need as pixepie states mps and the lords involvement hevily to obtain a change in the current endless data that they allow the likes of the london gazette to hold on all ex brs.
regards

E petitions have a great purpose, and it is something that could be used, remember though bankrupts aren't as well liked in the general public as there is still a stigma and securing that 100,000 magic number isn't easy. It took Martin a lot of publicity to secure that figure and his topic was on a far wider covering issue.
I am still keen to exhaust other areas first, I will admit to being disappointed at not hearing back from the ABI particularly from the hard work I put in with them but I'm still going to give them time then perhaps in a couple of weeks I will phone them to try an informal approach.
Next step is likely to be OfT. Will keep you posted.0 -
Received last night from Otto Thoresen, Director General of the ABI:
Thank you for getting in touch about our working access to insurance for discharged bankrupts. Our member survey is currently being analysed and we intend to put forward proposals for how insurers can make it clearer for customers and third parties to understand what should be disclosed when the ABI Property and Motor Committees take place early next year. As part of this exercise we will also consider your suggestion for good practice guidance on the period during which insurers ask for disclosure of bankruptcy.

In the meantime, we will write to you again with details of the study findings. 0 -

Still awaiting news, no recent developments. My current thoughts are firstly to see what happens at the motor and property committees they have made reference to, and seeing how quickly things change (assuming they do change). The committee is likely to take place before April I believe, and I would expect something to be in place with ABI members to handle bankruptcy data more appropriately from about June onwards.
(For those of you who don't want to trawl through the thread, my position is once a bankruptcy falls off a person's credit rating it is no longer a valid risk to insurers, so if insurers do consider bankruptcy to be a risk factor there should be a time limit of no more than six years on this question as opposed to the 'have you/anyone in your household ever been declared bankrupt?' - and ideally the bankruptcy question should be irrelevant after two years as happens with many insurers now).
If this hasn't been achieved, I would like to consider three things.
One is Martin's help. I appreciate he is busy, and I have asked him for help but he says he has too many campaigns he is working on right now. Martin has the contacts and resources to help out with my second point.
The second point is an OFT complaint. I have been fighting this for literally years now. I want other organisations to become involved including Which? and CAB to help create a super-complaint. I have asked them for help and they have not been forthcoming. Again with Martin's help this may be something we can achieve.
Thirdly, and this is only an idea at the moment, is to get a group of us together from this forum and lobby their annual conference towards the end of this year. Placards, leaflets, lots of media interest.
What are people's thoughts on these ideas?0 -
