Or cleaning their own moats, now that they can't claim for it anymore !
You would think that an awful lot of MP's will be very sympathetic to this, when you consider the amount of 'mistakes' they have made with their financial affairs.
I'm in

I would love - as in I would save up and pay good money - to know how timorous wee beasties such as Ex-Lord Archer et al fare post bankruptcy.
Somehow I can't see them being shown the door of the Yorkshire Bank because they don't "have a certificate of Discharge" or handing over 70% of their disposable income (after breadline allowances, of course) for 36 months...
To be honest, I'd also be fascinated to see details of what was taken/left by their Receivers too, during BR. ... I'm afraid that we're taking both Bentleys and the Titian from the hallway, you can take the bus in future ...
Call me cynical, but...

Ho Hum...
My thoughts?
Well, basically a BR is seen to be a threat to the world/society most of MPs come from, i.e. wealth, banking, places on bank managements/boards, etc, etc.
They dont live in our world (especially those with 4 "flipped" second homes, £5K of travel expenses when they live 15 minutes from westminster, and if married they are both on £300K a year (with expenses, etc)
the relationship BR:MP is like poacher:gamekeeper, except they wil be nice to your face hoping for your vote next time round...Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -
Two things a) Re Lord Archer - I think he's quite open about the whole thing and has said that everything is in his wife's name now - or it could be Mr Hamilton, one of them anyway.
b) Max - if we are fighting to not be tarred with the same brush just because we are BR as those BR's that *are* fraudulent etc, then surely by claiming all MPs are corrupt and saying' well, no point as they want to keep us out of their worlds' we are no better than the people whom make the regulations that we are trying to get changed.
You get good and bad in every single walk of life, do not judge until you have walked a mile in their shoes.Do not feed the trolls please.0 -

Judge not, my Father advised me, lest ye have to wear a wig, buckled shoes and sit in a hot court all day listening to No-win No-fee "lawyers" droning on. Good advice. In all fairness banging a heavy gavel all day can't be much fun.
I'm happy that Lord Archery or Hamiltonne or whomever could put everything in their wife's name. Before BR I put everything under my magic protective duvet, the one that saves me from noises that go bump in the night. It didn't work. The OR found them all. So much for a twelve-tog being proof against everything up to and including Klingon attack provided that you hold it over your head and screw your eyes tight shut.
Whatever you or I think of the Political Profession we have to remember that what we want is the end result - bankruptcy being reduced to at most being on a par with murder as far as staying on our records is concerned. Be nice to your MP/MEP during and for the duration of this campaign - there's nothing to stop us being two-faced and slagging them off elsewhere and otherwhen... We want them to change the law, we don't have to start liking them, we just have to let them think that we do.At the end of every rainbow is a smug meteorologist with a large prism.0 -
Hello
I would like everyone to remember what this is all about, that BR is not a label for life!
Everyone deserves the opportunity to start again, and not have this milestone hanging around their neck.
Please keep writing to everyone MP's etc.
I would like to see some type of a response from Martin and his MSE group, surely they can see in this economic climate this is unfair, and help us acheive a time limit not a life long sentence.

Oh, no, I meant they put everything in the wife's name POST br......as they can't get anything due to being BR...Do not feed the trolls please.0 -

I know that was what you meant Pixie me ol' fruitbat! I still can't imagine Lord Smogglybog or Sir Sidney Roughdiamond offering their Tuxedo pre-paid card whenever they check into the George Cinque in Paris!
Just to continue the refrain of the earlier couple of posts - this campaign is about reducing bankruptcy to at most the level of murder! After ten years no-one can ask whom you bumped off or hold it against you. With bankruptcy the hassle stays for life at the moment...
In a period of record numbers of insolvencies of all varieties the situation is untenable - it won't be long before Messrs Merchant & Bank have NO new customers without something like this in their past!At the end of every rainbow is a smug meteorologist with a large prism.0
