Private reg plates

If he is buying a new car from a dealer they can do it all without having to get forms from dvla. Or its easier to go into local dvla office and doing it, as you will get your tax disc back straight away. You will have to wait a few days on the rest of the paperwork though. As its against the law to drive with no tax disc showing.
The laws have changed, you dont need to show id to get plates made up. Used to be the case you took your V5 or retention certificate in and filled out a form to buy them but not anymore. Or you can just order some on the net.0 -
Thanks everyone, we have ordered the reg and will wait for the papers to arrive before going down to the shop to have it made.
Thanks for all the input0 -

Really? I hate all the hassle of having to get the customers ID collected and filed and all that rubbish so as they can have a new number plate!
Can you direct me to the appropriate legislation? I would need that and need to display it too so that we can't be accused of breaking the law when putting new plates on a vehicle. I'm surprised our suppliers didn't inform us of this new legislation.
ThanksGenie

What do you actually do in the garage?

Im meaning the dealer would do the forms not the customer himself.
I know all this as my good friend works in dvla, funnily enough his whole job everyday is doing the private reg transfers!!!!
Walk into any halfords or motor factors and ask for a reg plate made up and I bet they dont ask you for proof of the reg! My friend works in halfords and he told us this as soon as the law changed from having to supply id.
I part own a garage also, and my friend who works in dvla does too. We both also have machines supplied by the dvla to make up plates. Only guidelines we need to still follow is that the plate is of standard size and the letters and spacing is legal.
I however dont have a uk legal plate on my car as mine is an import so they carry different sized plates.0 -

Makes no odds you still need a UK spec plate.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Thanks - but I would still need something in writing as proof that the law has changed - otherwise we will still have to abide by the laws as we know them.
Do you think that I would find this new law on DVLA or Government site?Genie

Completly impossible when one wont fit in the holder on the boot.
The space isnt as long as a plate so you cant get one in
So has to be a 7X13 sized plate0
