I assume he will have to alter his insurance to show his new reg?

Yes and tax disc get's replaced with a new one, MOT ( if applicable ) is amended to reflect new details I believe.

Its done!! Bought the plate from the DVLA site (thanks again Jeannieblue) it was cheaper and very quick and simple.

Now he wants to know if he can go to Halfords and get the plate done this minute!

My guess would be no because he would need the registration papers to show ownership of the reg?

Is that correct or would Halfords (or similar) make the plate up anyway?

I assume he will have to alter his insurance to show his new reg?

    Great!

You have to get form from your local DVLA (not Swansea, unless you live there :D), you fill out the form and send whatever it is that they request. As in V5 form, current tax disc etc. - it says all on the form what is required. Then they send back the authorisation, plus new tax disc and you take the authorisation with ID to get the plates made. It only took a few days to do this - typing it all out seems longer....... :o

Admittedly I did get the plates made up beforehand by people I know and yes, that was naughty... but they were not put on the car until the authorisation came through, before anyone jumps on my case.

I've heard of internet sites that sell plates and don't ask for ID - its illegal but they are out there...

But, if the plates are for the new car in six months.. you won't have to do any of that and I doubt you can have the plates made up now... :o

Indeed, I get mine from a seller on eBay, he is DVLA Registered, a bit naughty of him, but still they are cheap and fast.

If it ain't, it is a very good impersonation of advertising, I just didn't want him to get in to any trouble.. ;)
