dooby. i dont know. i agree most of joe public dont bother. but i still think that megga code swapping is not fair play. i have not read the T&CS but i think swapping is not what mcvities wanted.

I agree with the people who have said that they should have used unique codes.

I've no idea why they didn't but whoever came up with this idea for a comp hasn't thought it through. They must have spend thousands and thousands of pounds on marketing this competition, the web design, the web hosting company, the wrapper design, the printing costs, the TV adverts and so on.

As far as i'm concerned Compers are not cheats, there was nothing in their terms and conditions that said you cannot swap codes, they even expect people in the same household to swap codes as they wrote a bit about that in the terms, so to me there is no difference in letting my OH have a go with the household biscuits as there is letting my mate down the road have a go or my mates on the internet.

If they want to look into their competition being unfair then they should have thought about shoppers such as my Grandparents, they regularly buy Rich Tea but they don't have a computer or a mobile phone and even if they did the print on the packets is so small they can't read it anyway.

Compers are getting the blame for what has basically been a marketing f**k up.

    I won, I won, I won!
We have been made to look like the naughty ones, but we've been the ones buying large, I mean big big quantities of biscuits making mcvities a large profit!!! No mrs and mr couple would go out and buy the qualities of biscuits that we all have....Dooby totally agree,
  • I agree. I have 15 packets of biscuits in my cupboard. Does this not make me a genuine customer? Also the first 5 packets I bought all had the same time code on them so I am unable to enter with 4 of them. How is that fair on customers? I am sure that there is no one who has entered themselves. has not considered entering for their partner. Mother, friend etc so how is it any different using internet friends? At the end of the day we have proof of purchase.
Thanks to all competiton posters, This really is the best ever hobby :j

I don't remember Heinz getting their knickers in a twist about their recent competition and with their comp you didn't even have to buy the product. All they wanted was a code which you could copy down off the supermarket shelf and you didn't have to provide proof of purchase, never mind your bloomin driving license or council tax bill.

The more I think about it the more McVities are making me cross.

Ok, so they're not happy with us sharing codes, not my problem, I've done nothing wrong and neither has anyone else on here. We've not hacked their site, we've not looked for, manipulated or found flaws with their programme design.

McVities should have left alone and learnt from it. They could have left us be, most of us were getting fed up with entering the boring codes for nothing anyway, the novelty was quickly wearing off. They could have claimed a successful campaign, banged on about how they gave the public £5,000 a day in these hard times and spent a little more time thinking about the next competition they did. Bottom line is, whoever wins it won't cost McVities any more money. They have increased their own expenditure by flapping and panic managing and have alienated compers from buying their products. Whoever has been advising them should be sacked.

think they are just trying to 'spread' the wins around a little bit more - in a competition like this you would expect a very wide spread of winners and with us inputting constantly its prob not happening, so they just want people who would input a single code to stand a chance).
Well then, the idiots should have used unique codes instead of sly digs in the T&C's most definitely aimed at us compers, the other bunch of idiots that have been buying bucketloads of their product.

Or they could have limited the amount of entries per postcode per day.

Have McVities made any sort of statement about the competition? I've been reading through the posts and don't understand the comments about compers getting the blame/being treated badly etc.

No statement as far as I know but this is what they've said in their 'new' terms and conds
It appears that a small group of entrants are not adhering 100% to the T&C's and therefore we have had to adjust these T&C's slightly to protect all genuine consumers. Therefore from 3rd September 2009 at 10:30am (BST), the following clause will take effect.

Only one minor and one major prize per person can be won throughout the promotional period.

Only one major and one minor prize can be won per household per day.

The piece in bold is what irks me. They are accusing us of not adhering to the T&C's when they know damned well that by swapping codes we didn't break those terms. By saying that we have not adhered to them, they are accusing us of cheating and i'm taking umbrage at that being suggested.

We adhered to their T&C's 100% and they know it. But because they don't like us swapping, which there is STILL nothing in the terms to say you can't, they have changed the amount of times you can win. They've f*cked up, not us but yet they mention us in their new terms, like it's our fault.
