Hi Annie,
I take on what you and Purplebutterfly say, but even if McVities do see the codes (which incidentally many MSE'ers have used in their sigs for quite a while now) unless they can find a direct link between MSE'er, name and address and winners then there is no proof and therefore the thought of prizes being blocked is not only unfeasible but also unlawful. If you know of a way that they could do that then that would be key information to share with everyone because I've thought long and hard about it through the comp and cannot see any way that they can. MSE cannot be compelled to divulge anyones personal info so McVities cannot obtain it that way and as long as you don't have your email (which you also key into Bonkers) on your profile I don't see how the connection can be made but please advise if you know otherwise.
If you have a win, whether with your own code or one that has been given to you, whether or not you have a seperate arrangement to give the wrapper giver a gift, that is an arrangement privately made between you and of no-one elses concern nor right to know about.Just think its a bit risky posting all the codes, when most of us are still waiting for cheques to arrive.0 -
Looking back I think we should have set up a private group last month and all bonked each other in secret

Actually, I don't think they need to have cast-iron proof to refuse to pay out. I think as long as they have reasonable suspicion then they are allowed to cancel prizes
I'm not saying that they will but I don't really understand how anybody can be in need of codes when I have them sent to me all the time without me even asking for them?

There will be 'normal' members of the public with the same codes posted on here, they cannot justify blocking a win for that reason. I do always think it best to be anonymous regarding choice of user names/posting real names on an open forum however.0

That's easy for you to say! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
My head hurts trying to understand it lol
I don't think we need to do this to kickstart the winning again. I don't believe that winning works by being kickstarted. Each entry is an isolated event with its own probability of winning; the probability of winning is inversely proportional to the number of entries and (disregarding superstition) that is the only effect entries will have on other entries.[/QUOTE]2015 wins: Nokia Lumia 735 Smartphone

Fair point about codes as I still have lots to get through but I don't agree with the need for anything other than cast-iron proof to refuse to pay out. Workin in Law I would suggest that for McVities to make a decision not to pay out they would have to have it cast-iron otherwise they will need to prove in a Court of Law why they have withheld winnings due to a competition winner and without that cast-iron proof there would be lots of small claims submitted for this (I can help should the situation arise) and lots of attendances in courts up and down the country or alternatively filing of written defences which could easily be knocked straight out of court without a cast-iron piece of proof.
Not only would this lose McVities the winnings but also costs to be paid to the person pursuing their claim and court fees. All in all a few hundred pounds at a time to quibble what may well be less than that.
I think McVities will have learned lots from this comp but with 5 days left to go won't want to create such a fracas and undoubted publicity should they pursue such action. But that's just my opinion and I do respect others who don't feel the same way :-)purplebutterfly wrote: »Actually, I don't think they need to have cast-iron proof to refuse to pay out. Yes those ducks are quite smart :j It's a bit late for us now but maybe when the next comp like this one comes along we should all get together.0 -

Thing is, they don't HAVE to justify it. It says so in the rules. They won't enter into correspondence and they have the final say.
They've made the T&Cs pretty watertight on this one. What they say goes - proof or no proof. Justification or none.
Whilst they may have accepted the PM'ing of codes, openly publishing them just seems like a sure-fire way to !!!! them off.
By accepting the terms of the competition you have waived your right to legally pursue them - and who on earth has the time, money or inclination to take this to court? Seriously. We're not in America!
