The shop called "savers" what a joke!

sorry but can i ask something. The till was only £1.19 over right?
DD handed over money and was given wrong change
Reciept says £1
So . . . does that not mean that - say for instances your DD did actually only hand £10 over - should the till not be at least £9 over and not £1.19??
me doth think they pulled a fast one0 -

No, because she was given £9 change, even though it was rang through as a £1.0 -
Sorry to hear that essexlander. The money is probably lost but it would be worth escalating it up the ranks, if only to complain about the manager.
Many years ago, I bought something from Kwik Save for £1, but only got £2 change from my £5. I instantly queried it without even closing my hand never mind moving away from the till. There was no question that I had given her £5 as it confirmed this on the receipt. So the only way she could have NOT short-changed me is if I'd somehow hidden 2 £1 coins by some amazing sleight-of-hand.
But despite this, they insisted on closing down the till (inconveniencing other shoppers) and doing a check, which does of course rely on the till being correct in the first place. Had I have moved away from the till, one could argue that a check was reasonable, but I had not. When I complained to the store manager, he told me that the policy was nothing to do with him and if I don't like it, I should complain to the area manager.
As it happened, the till check proved I had been short-changed, but I was made to wait unnecessarily to get my change. Nevertheless, I wrote to express my disgust at their blanket guilty-until-proven-innocent type policy rather than showing some discretion. Many weeks later, their area manager turned up at my house one evening unannounced in order to justify their policy, but for my particular scenario he could not.0 -

If her friend thinks she handed over a £10 note, how can she be sure that she did not? She could have dropped the £10 note or used it for something else.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Savers have a camera pointed at the tills.0

When i worked for good old woolies, a lady swore blind she gave me a £20 pound note, when they handed notes to me id just say out loud " thats £20 ", which i did, yet she insisted she gave a £20 note ( she had in fact given me a £10 note). I called my supervisor over, she closed the till, took it upstairs to the office counted the money in it and it was bang on correct, oh and when i got off the till while it was being counted, i was asked to turn out my pockets and take off my shoes for a search ( by my supervisor ) just to show i hadnt pocketed it.
The office manager came down and told her the till was correct and in fact there were no twenty pound notes as she had emptied the tills not too long before. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

I am somewhat "amused" by the fact that all the baddies are working behind the tills !
My daughter managed both a WH Smith & an M & S Simply Food - believe you me, there are far more crooked customers than crooked shop assistants !
But you have to say their stupidity is usually the only thing they have plenty of - they all seem to think that no one has ever tried that particular scam before.
The favourite one in M & S was to say they bought a couple of somethings (expensive) and they were so disgusting that they threw them away - with the packaging - oh, and they lost the receipt. All my daughter had to do was ask when they bought these objects and did they buy anything else. She then said she will check the computer which will tell her when any of these items were sold.
She invariably found that no sales tallied with the supposed purchase - and the complainant had gone when she came out of her office !0 -
Simply ring savers and ask to see the hidden camera footage from above the till or maybe the other 2-3 that are small and dark domes that will show money from the customers pocket to the till
I knew someone who installed them for savers.0 -

Unfortunately it's obvious that they're not going to do that, it seems like the manager was either in on the scam or just couldn't be bothered checking for you. Of course it could have just been an honest mistake, but there was no need for him to be rude to you, try writing to their head office or sending an email or something, he obviously didn't want you to get in touch with them, maybe the same thing has happened to other people?
In this case they counted the tills."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
"A dream? Really, Doctor. You'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next. "0
