There's no evidence that anyone has been theiving.

There's no evidence even that the OP's daughter was short changed even, she just thinks she was, but even she is not 100% sure, by the sound of it.

if somones thieving its worth kicking up a fuss, if they did this trick 10 times a day they would made loads of money...

Yes, and ultimatley they would end up in jail with a cellmate called Bert.....and i am not denying that as a crime it woudl be very lucrative BUT....

You cannot just accuse someone of stealing though

innocent until proven guilty - law of the country. You tell me how you could PROVE they had commited a crime? no cameras remember?

The cashier could then have pocketed the £10 from the daughter's change, leaving the till correct (£10 to till/£10 to cashier).'

classic - work out the error and win a prize!

Yeah - this intial post confused me too. I think the poster is getting confused as to how a till is reconciled at the end of the day.

BTW the till would be £9 OVER if they only rang in £1 but subsequently pushed the £10 into the cash tray.

granted the cahsier could then pocket this £9 as a later time and show no adverse affect on the takings.

So long as the customer is given the right amount of change for the money that goes in the till, there wouldn't be any error when the tills are cashed up, no matter how much the item is rung up for be it £1 or £100, although it's good practise to ring up the correct amount.

In the OP's case, I would say there's not much they can do except treat it as a £10 lesson for their daughter to check her change in future - it's easy to say, but it's not until something like this happens that you really make sure you check everything before you move away from the till.

But the OP said the receipt said she paid £10 so the extra £10 not on the reciept would have likely been put into the till, then taken out at a later time when nobody was watching is my guess.

I should add here (having worked in retail for years) that the average is 60-70% theft from staff rather then customers. (This includes all staff from the cleaners, delivery people and shop floor staff to the area-managers and company directors, not just the till staff).

It seems Savers are not like any of the stores I have worked in where it was guilty until proven innocent at the staff being blamed for anything rather then any customers- even if we had a theft in our store, the staff would be questioned on their involvement rather then it being obvious we had a shoplifter/snatch!

I would keep hasseling them- go in and visit and demand to see CCTV stuff- contact the police if you need to (only managers can view CCTV stuff but not sure where it lies on the personal infomation act (not sure what its called) and a store having information -namely a camera show, of your daughter.

It happened to me in Wilkos a year back. I only had a twenty on me as i'd just been to the cash point. I brought some shampoo and conditioner and gave the women the twenty and she gave me a fiver and some coins, i noticed stright away and told her i gave her a twenty. She denied out right i gave her a twenty and even when i called the manager she took her side, even though i hadn't left the store and told her as soon as the change was in my hands. The manager told me they would ring me when they closed up to see if the till was over but the woman must have pocketed it as it she told me it was actually £10 under in a way what sounded like she was accusing me.
