I've got to go right back to the beginning again, friend keeps making excuses and I just haven't got the will power to start again by myself.
I doing exercise DVD's in the morning though so haven't totally feel off the wagon!0 -
Def still here and still suffering from this heat!
Excellent week you are having K9 - you have really stuck with it and then some! You should be very proud indeed - what does your OH think of it?
We started the 10km training plan again this week as last week we just couldn't get into the groove at all. We still went out M,W,F but mostly fast walked.
Week One 10 km plan
Monday - should have done 20 minute walk but we did a 45 minute brisk walk including a tough hill which we usually go to great lenghts to avoid :O) A quick look on MapMyRun and I think it was about 4km.
Tuesday - rest
Wednesday - 5 minutes jogging non stop, 3 minute walk then repeat
As I could never run longer than 3 minutes I reckoned this was impossible but we did it! Nearly killed me and in the second 5 minute stretch I walked for about 20 secs around 3 minutes in but we finished it and I am so pleased. I can't cool down though and we have been back half an hour!
I am still quite overweight and have decided to put a push on to lose half a stone over the summer break. Most of the weight I lost on the 10 week plan was in the first few weeks. I think I need to really diet now as oppose to just eating better which is what I was doing.
And the mapmyrun shows this run this morning would have burnt off 112 calories! And I am so hungry I could eat two breakfasts .... I can see why you really need to be careful.

Blumming heck guys! You're doing reallly well.
getcarter: I'm still trying to get back into it as well. Think when my new trainers arrive i'll be much more up for it as my old ones smell! Get back out there! well done on the dvds though
Claudie i'm following the slimming world diet (though i'm going to rosemary conley classes as they do aerobics there) and have an awful lot of weight to lose (5 stone ish). I've lost just over two stone now and find the 'I wanna lose weight' thread really useful. But then, as k9 certainly knows, there are a few more losing weight threads dotted about these forums which are probably just as motivational and very supportive. Good luck with it!

Thanks Jen
I went to RC a few years ago and really enjoyed it (well as much as I could possibly enjoy that type of thing LOL). Well done on losing 2 stone, that is fantastic! You should be very proud of yourself.
Never thougt about the losing weight threads - must go have a look and get motivated!
And getcarter - good on you for doing the DVDs. I have bought a couple over the years but have never really gotten into the habit. I should do really, especially when the weather turns. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -

Well I really don't fancy cycling today.. but I MUST!!! I like the feeling of all my clothes being too big!!
Claudie.. OH is fine.. He started the gym before me, but TBH he's not deciated enough or motiviated! I've said for him to come running with me but now he thinks he's too unfit and won't keep up!! :rolleyes:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

OK so the 10km plan is hard!!
Today should have been 7 minute run then 2 minute walk *2 reps
Managed about 4 minutes running, 1 minute walk then 3 minutes running *2 reps. Couldn't do the full 7 minutes without a short break.
So we stayed out for the required time but at a different pace. I am guessing this first week is about building stamina for longer distances. I was just getting comfortable running for longer times but next week we start staying out longer while running longer stretches. It will either make me or kill me LOL
I may try and find a local gym doing a free day trial. I wonder how I would do on a treadmill now? I reckon that may help build up the time I can stay running? Anyone else using a treadmill and the streets? I have heard it is different with different advanatges to both.
Have a good weekend. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -

Hi K9 - you are doing really well. Adding the cycling is a great idea. I have a bike phobia so I won't be trying that. I am still managing though 3 if not 4 jogs a week. But I have been having a rough time of it...I think I have hit a mental block of some sort ...my mind is willing but my body is really struggling. I have been recording my running and I think my eating hasn't been as healthy...maybe if I get back to salads and no after 6pm eating it will get easier. I have slacked off dietwise since I did RfL.
Just back from yet another diasterous run. Managed 30 pain filled minutes yesterday, 20 today. It was so awful I was almost in tears. Couldn't get my breathing, couldn't budge my legs, reckon I just did about a mile and a half or 2 km in 20 minutes...not record breaking by any means and at this rate I will bethe Runners World last finisher for the 10km in Oct! I really must get the Paul McKenna out again and have a listen every night this week. I can do it. I can do it!The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
Claudie.. that fact your doing it.. is better then nothing!! I must admit I was very low willed last week!!! But I see it as one of the things I have too do! Like brushing my teeth.. don't think about it.. just get on with it! You doing well... I must admit my race in Sept is the only thing that has kept me going!!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

Have a good weekend.
The treadmill is easier on the joints. I prefer it in the winter when it is really, really too cold to go outside. I keep reading you are supposed to set it at about 1% incline to mimic the effect of running on a straight road (with no wind).
I find it useful to build up my stamina. On the road you can just slow down; but on a treadmill, you run the risk of falling off the back of it! It's also useful for measuring distances, heartrate etc (although I assume an error margin of about 10-15%).
In my experience, I've found a combination of the two to be best. The treadmill has really helped with my speedwork (run fast for a min, slow down for a min, repeat) and I have a rough idea of times. I try to do long runs outside, but it's not always easy on the pavement. If you have a nice trail, riverside path, then that's probably the best thing.
It's been good to read all these stories. I started running around a year ago, but consider myself in the beginners camp.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '
