Entitlement to disturbance allowance?

Hello to all,

I have been a long time lurker on MSE and am hoping you can help me?

My husband is in the Army and we have been granted a house move due to having another baby, from a 2 bed to 3 bed home, we have been told that we are entitled to move at public expense, however, no one seems to know if we are entitled to disturbance allowance, if someone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Amy.

If your entitled to move at public expense then you qualify for DA.

Your husband can apply for it on JPA. However he should check which level he is entitled to with his HR clerk first.

    Thank you for replying.

I will get him to do that, could you tell me however what you mean by check the level he is entitled to? sorry if I sound stupid but I wasn't aware there were different levels.
  • I don't think there are different levels anymore since JPA.
It used to be that if it was a local move, ie within the same camp area you would get a reduced amount of approx £300.

I think now you either get DA or you don't.

I have just moved SFA at Defence Estates request to a house about 250 yards away and I claimed removals and DA of £1048.

My only advise is to get hold of a copy of the JSP752. This is what you will be claiming against, and if audited on your claim. This is what you will have to refer too.

Anyone who gives you advice through the internet will not stand up at a court martial for fraud in your defense.

Here is a copy of the JSP 752 taken from the RAF Community website. This maybe not an up to date copy, so ensure you have a look of an offical one before you put the claim in.

It depends on whether you move from SLA to SLA or to and from Private Accommodation. Your infer an SLA to SLA move.

It also depends on how many kids you have as there is more money per child.

Hence the differing levels of payment.

We were when we moved to a bigger house due to being entitled, even though it was just around the corner.

Fill in the forms on JPA if you are entitled it will be granted, if not it won't.
  • As long as you have paperwork confirming movement as public expense then there is no reason not to claim DA. I got it once when they moved me 400m to another house when they needed to renovate the one I was in.

As has been stated a number of times, your other half can do it on JPA and there is now only one rate.

The good news is that it arrives in the bank very quickly. The bad news (for your husband) is that you know about it so it will not go towards his new toys!!! I always used to tell the other half that I would pay the disturbance allowance every time we moved. :)
