No longer work in a bar. Now making living by counting pennies - well profits really. Not my own unfortunately:rotfl:

Interesting..... who's money is that then? I wasn't aware of any companies that were making profits right now - :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Direct debits always seem the easiest method but time and time again they create problems (numerous threads like this one and duplicate payments because people have paid by card or at a bank and then the direct debit took some too).

Far easier to do it yourself at your own convenience.

Find it quite funny how people criticise me but can spend plenty of time here on MSE.

It took me all of about 3 minutes to pay my Tesco card earlier. It's not hard unless you just want to create something to moan about.

Couldn't agree more! All direct debits do is cause hassle and aggravation, whether its the banks fault or the bank account owners fault.

    Get them banned!

Oh no! I love DD, much less hassle for me than doing it all myself. I use a combination of DD and internet banking for credit cards. I pay in full via internet banking normally, with the DD for min payment just in case I do ever break a leg etc.

    OP here :hello:

Cant believe the way this thread has gone in my absence :rotfl:

Surely the idea of DD is so you DON'T incur any late charges which is what I do with another card, by setting up for minimum payment and then pay off a larger amount by debit card...(See [STRIKE]PratBoy[/STRIKE] Daveboy...other people can do that too!! ;)

My issue was having a late charge applied due to no fault of my own.

Does Daveboy suggest I waste my time on the internet paying Gas, Electric, insurances, water bills, television license, mortgage, Council tax etc etc manually?

I think not!! My time is much more precious and this is the first problem I have ever encountered in twenty years.

tesco have proven they were at fault as they have refunded the Late payment fee. Surely no argument?

I use a combination (just in case I got rushed to hospital etc.)

Unfortunately, even DDs are not always trouble-free.

Some forum users seem to have difficulty setting them up at all, others assume wrongly that additional manual payments will be treated by their new cc provider the same way as the old one and of course your current account needs to be sufficiently well-funded to cover all your DDs each month, otherwise you're hit for bank charges on top of the late fees charged by cc companies.

If, as has happened in your case, you've avoided those pitfalls, your DD can still fail if your lender changes your account number and doesn't inform your bank. Then there's the DDs that are collected twice in one month when the payment date changes, not to mention those that are debited to old and new current accounts at the same time. If you forget to call your lender before cancelling a DD, they'll attempt to take it and you'll be charged. It's all good fun

Of course you can ask for anything you like, but the FOS's official stance (if the complaint gets that far) is that they will value your time at £10 per hour.

 I'd need counselling to get over the trauma of a pay-cut that severe. I was being charitable at £30 an hour! :p

I seem to recall that self-employed people can 'ask' for more, and they may get it if they can prove they took time off from running their business to deal with the issue.

However, for the rest of us on PAYE it's assumed we can deal with it during our leisure time. ;)

Interesting..... who's money is that then? I wasn't aware of any companies that were making profits right now - :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Company I work for is - even more surprising that if I tell you it's manufacturing...
But we sell 95% of product abroad... and with £ being so cheap..

National statistics got fed up with me returning them nice figures (actually rung me to make sure I am not making it up) and spoiling their gloom reports so they stop sending it to me!!:rotfl:
