Your surfing policies will minimise the risk, but you would be foolish to run without any AV installed. Since you've already paid for it, why not install it?

Erm, the last three pages might be a bit of a clue lol.

No, I do understand your point, and am determined to get it sorted sooner or later. I really have to be in the right frame of mind, because quite frankly the last couple of days I've been feeling so depressed, and it has to be due to this, because I'm not a depressive type and there's no other problems in my life.

I totally admire you helpful people on this board, but it really is like a foreign language to some of us who have never had to do our own trouble shooting. At work we had IT support, and since using a home computer I've had set-up help from my brother-in-law (who lives 130 miles away), then just blundered along as best I can.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

If you have a mental block about doing this, then why not just get a local PC tech to come in and sort whatever part of it you can't handle (and no I don't mean take it to PCW), You have shown that you can do all of it except get your internet connection working, so you are probably talking about spending less than you spent on Kapersky in the first place. If you run without any decent AV, I guarantee you will end up a lot more depressed.
