Help please - today's the day (Kaspersky install)

My Norton 360 expires today, it has already gone from my task bar when I switched on, although yesterday the pop-up said it had one day left.

I've put the CD for Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 in the drive, and it is showing on My Computer but nothing has happened. I expected it to start up and guide me through the installation.

I did get a pop-up saying something like "Norton install has failed due to blah-de-blah" but thought that was because I had clicked on Uninstall Norton from All Programs>Norton360>Uninstall Norton 360.

Been searching on my previous thread for the link to use to uninstall Norton properly, but can't find it. Could someone kindly re-post it here please?

In the meantime, do I leave the Kaspersky CD in the drive, or remove it?

Hope someone is around as I could do with some support with this. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi

If you have Vista first go to Control Panel and click on Programs and Features.
In Xp it's Add or Remove Programs
Make sure all of Norton stuff is deleted from there
If you think it will take more than 3 hours to fix a software problem it is probably quicker to reinstall windows. 30 mins to install windows, 2½ hours to reinstall all your nice software

Use the proper removal tool here before trying to install Kaspersky.

Thanks, I am not on Vista, got IE. Thanks for the removal tool, I will do it now.

I think I'd better take the Kaspersky CD out - hope that's right. Don't want Norton corrupting it or anything.

Phew! Ran the removal tool, after which it said to re-start computer which I did, only to find my Internet connection wouldn't work. Tried loads of times, kept getting Error 720 messages. Fiddled about a bit in "settings" but didn't know what I was doing :o.

So did a system restore to yesterday, and thank goodness I'm now in.

Now to install the Kaspersky. I knew today wasn't going to be simple! Back soon... I hope!

System restore will have Norton back.

Yeah so it seems. I went through the Kaspersky install sequences, and right at the end it says it could not complete installation as Norton 360 was blocking it . So I went into My Computer, which was still showing Norton 360, so I clicked on Uninstall and it says it cannot find the system file! So either it has Norton or it hasn't, but it doesn't seem to know which.

Now I'm stuck, because presumably if I run the uninstall tool again I will booger up my internet connection again. Aarrgghhh...

Suppose I'll have to try it anyway. If I don't get back it means I've got no net, and I'll be sat here in tears :(.

Okay I am now completely fed up. Uninstalled Norton again, which resulted in no Internet, put Kaspersky in and ran installation, found it wouldn't activate due to no Internet, fiddled around for ages but no way was the Internet coming back (Error 720 seems to be the predominant message, and I don't understand all the jargon on the "more info" bit), so had to system restore again and now of course Norton is back, except it isn't according to Control Panel remove option! Also Kaspersky has now gone again, and I'm worried I won't be able to re-load it as the version I bought is for one computer.

When the Internet won't connect, it is fine at the modem (two green lights), the little arrows symbol in task bar has a green bar with two red arrows, so it is obviously "live", yet it wont let me connect.

Is this a common problem when Norton is uninstalled?

Also what is ccCommon? On this last reconnection, it spent ages reinstating that, whatever it is.

Can anyone please suggest how I might overcome this problem. I can't even temporarily disable Norton as the Norton main window won't load now.

Do you need to validate Kaspersky online straight away? I thought it would run as a trial version for a month or so. So you install, run, get your internet back and then validate at a later date.

The only way I can get my Internet back is by system restore to yesterday, which then removes Kaspersky and puts the Norton icon back on my desktop and in my Control Panel. When I click on it in Control Panel and select "remove" it tells me it can't find the file. I seem to be in a rock and hard place situation.

Given that the 1 year Norton effectiveness expires today, I'm wondering if by tomorrow it will let me re-install Kaspersky without uninstalling Norton. Can't think of anything else to try.

Tbh I am totally out of my depth with anything that goes wrong. I haven't even got a broad understanding of the terminology and options. I'm hoping someone who is good with idiots will come along and help me out!

You'd probably do better researching this yourself using google than asking for guesses here. For instance the first thing I see in a search on this is - http://www.techsupportforum.com/networking-forum/protocols-routing/374939-lost-internet-connectivity-after-norton-uninstall.html which may or may not be the answer.

Norton Security is the Spawn of Satan and probably more of a problem to remove than a virus.
